When I am on my computer, sometimes there is something running in the background. I can tell this because the hourglass starts up as if a program is opening up, or has been loading?? What ever it is also makes my Puter drag bigtime. There is no icon that shows up anywhere so that I can tell what it is. I bought the computer used. Can someone tell me how to find out what may be running in the background so that I can disable it??

Install and run Spybot Search and Destroy also keep up to date; and Ad-Aware 2007 ( do the same thing) and use Zone Alarm firewall. They will keep out the "garbage". That's what I use and my computer is 3 years old and still works like brand new. I bought it new.
Those downloads except Zone Alarm are free.

press CTRL+ALT+DEL and run your task manager. then click the processing tab and it'll tell u everything that is running on ur computer. if it shouldn't be running but it is, just click on it and hit the end process key and it'll stop running.
