I was thinking of purchasing one of the more expensive, ceramic flat irons from a local salon, because when they styled my hair the other day, the flat iron worked wonders! However, it costs about $120.00. The flat iron I own now isn't the greatest. I think I bought it for $30.00 and it isn't ceramic. For those of you who own these more expensive flat irons, are they worth the investment? Or should those of us stick with the $30.00 irons from Wal-Mart?

It really depends. If you have relatively straight, manageable hair, I wouldn't pay $120 for a flat iron. I have wavy, thick hair & a Chi and it works great for me, but I think that if you dont 'reallly' need it, I wouldn't get it.

Let me break this down for you:
----------------
Professional (expensive) Flat Irons:
PROS:
Straightens your hair quickly
Most irons have an adjustable heat setting that goes up to 400 degrees
Keeps your hair straight for as long as you keep your hair dry
Will last you about 3 years
Small and easier to maneuver
Can curl your hair too
Can flip your hair
CONS:
none!
------------
Revlon/Conair/Remington/Any other iron found in Wal-mart:
PROS:
Straightens your hair
CONS:
Usually break soon
Bulky
Heavy
Damages your hair much more than professional irons do
Fries your hair
Only keeps it straight for a few hours.
---------------
So, I think it's clear what you should get. If you buy one, try to get a sedu 1 inch iron. It is supposed to be THE BEST iron on the market. I have it, and it is a professional.. but more. Celebrities use it, and it's VERY nice. Buy it from this website:
http://www.folica.com/Sedu_Ionic_Cera_d1557.html
Check out the before and after pictures at this website, too. Click the link, and then click on the tab that says Customer Reviews. You couldn't do that with a walmart iron ;)

Chi straighteners are fantastic! They straighten your hair so it like stick straight but it also doesnt ruin your hair. If you are willing to pay top of the line I HIGHLY recommend this straightner. Aldo, if you need a straightening iron hair protector you can use Design Line's straightening iron protector it's really good. Also, I recommend using Design Line's mousse because you wont have to get your hair cut as often. Good Luck!

I do know that ceramic hair straighteners generally work better and don't damage your hair as much as normal straighteners. The price isn't really what tells you if it's good or not, it's the brand and type of iron. I've heard that Chii makes wonderful hair irons.

I think they are....I got a Solia for $88 on Folica.com two summers ago. The more expensive ones (especially the ones with tourmaline plates) don't damage your hair as much. I don't have any split ends. My twin sis uses one of those $30 ones, and it damages her hair. Honestly, try saving your cash and getting a Solia. The results are impressive and you can straighen more often without worrying about destroying your hair.
