More protein for muscles. Good snacks are; green apple with peanut, almond or sunflower seed butter, carrots with a healthy dip of hummus, grapes with a handful of almonds, to name just a few. Don't forget to bring along water and drink some both before and after your run.

You should NOT take complex proteins such as meat. The body has to break it back down to its basic amino acids to re-compose into YOUR protein. That takes a LOT of energy. Thats why some people feel sleepy after a meal : the body has to divert energy to the stomach.
If you take a full complex amino acid on an empty stomach I find it gives me energy for several hours, and you have all the proteins you need. Obviously for running you need quick energy which comes from carbohydrates.

Fiber for sure cos it makes you feel fuller for longer but I dont think it is a good idea to be eating before exercising, they say you should wait 11/2 hours at least or you will get cramps etc. i would eat nuts (fullof fibre), carrot sticks, celery sticks, plenty of water, rice cakes, cheese and biscuits. YUM!
