I asked this before but I thought it was worth repeating.
Just a thought, please hear me out before you answer.
okay say men did make God Jesus etc. up, why not make up something more desirable to the flesh?
Why make up some supreme being that requires you to do opposite of your fleshly desires?
like: forgive those who hurt you, etc.
wouldn't man have made up a "god" who would allow them to indulge in all their fleshly desires, promote self , and the most amazing one ....why would they create hell?
why not everyone lives forever in "happyland" because everything is okay and no sin etc.?
and please don't use the "old" fear tactic or control, it's much easier to get people to follow "feel good" religion.
and remember they "made it up" to follow for there selfs and died for it. who would die for a lie?
just athought.

agnostic boy....proof men reject it, by law in a court 2 wittiness or more is iron clad proof, people get set free or go to death chamber with it. we have hundreds of wittiness who died to spread the truth and many accounts in "history " books testifing of him, by the law of the land there is "proof" reject it or not your choice.

coatofskin...the problem with the whole "money" answer is this...Jesus never took a dime, his Apostles never had a second coat, they never profited nothing, they "distibuted there money to all in need and had all things in common"
read Acts 1&2 the whole "money" deal came when man decided to take over and start up there version of what Jesus taught...Jesus often scolded religious leaders and money changers...

Through your circular reasoning - since the GOD man invented is obviously not the GOD man would have invented had he had a free hand in the invention itself, then by definition man must not have invented GOD!
I think you have just accidentally proven that GOD created man.
Funny thing with you atheists stumbling onto the truth like that. It's like my grandfather always said, "Even a blind squirrel can find an occasional acorn!"
But your blasphemy is duly noted.

Well people can make up any religion they want to. And if there were not God then you asked the right question. Because then the strongest god has to be the one where the winner is in a war. And if everyone did their own thing like steal, kill, cheat, lie laws are not effective. Bad people can roam the streets at will. In fact there would be no need to be good or bad since all people die in the end.
Noah's time was when all that happened and God got fed up! Thank God there was one person Noah and his family that did righteous before God and lived lives that were contrary to every self destructive human behavior there was.
God saved a planet full of animals through that man and his family.

The fact is people make up all kinds of things. The reason certain ones are still present is due to their success. Suppose someone made Religeon A, which required you not to have sex with anyone until marriage, and someone else made Religeon B, have sex as much as possible. Well the members of Religeon B would be much more susceptible to sexual transmitted infections, and a very large portion of those infected would probably die if this were to take place in medeival times. Even if a religeon is less appealing, as long as it forces people to be more "safe" rather than "happy", it has a better chance of surviving and spreading. For example, the idea of Hell could possibly help the spread of a religeon due to the fact that it is a strong disincentive against disobeying things which in fact do cause you to live longer or reproduce more or spread your ideas etc. whatever it takes to grow the religeon. Not saying this is always the case, but this will and does happen. Not just with religeon either, this happens with the very social order in which we live. It's called survival of the fittest.

Because they can control you easier. WHO decides what is right and wrong? What about morality? If you suppress those "feel good" feelings then it adds "Proof" that you are trying to do it for their own good...
I personally think that there is a lot missing from the Bible and that it was meant ONLY to be a guide and nothing more. Not adhered to like some people do. I also believe that while it started off with the best intentions it has been overrun via fanatics with nothing better to do than to use it for their own evil intents...purposely leaving out the most important parts of the Bible.

Actually, it turns out that it ISN'T easier to get people to follow feel good religions.
It is human nature for most humans to seek leadership and structure. If everyone simply does what feels best, then there is no structure, there is anarchy.
Human social structure is literally defined by what freedoms we will give up, not the ones we expect.
As such, a religion which limits or curtails things which are naturally private anyways (and thus not things that will generally change social appearances) will be much more successfull than a do-what-you-want religion.
The followers of David Koresh died for a lie. Why? Because they believed it was true. The followers of Jesus died for a lie. Why? Because they believed it was true.

you're question is not realistic. every time someone starts say what "if" then its no use. just think, what if i can fly i could do bla bla bla.........you get the point. also, you seem to have some kind of hatred towards Jesus. obviously, at one point in your life you find out that you couldn't live holy for god so you post this stupid question to satisfy your mind. if you think man created religion and god then there is something wrong with you, seriously. whether you like it or not their is a god, just like there is good and evil in this world. you can't have that perfect world that you are dreaming about. if we did then there wouldn't be law, police, army...etc. face it and get to the real world. in addition, please stop watching too much Disney movies.

via fact it became no longer made as much as regulate the human beings who made it up. It became made as much as regulate the human beings around them. faith has continually been a political gadget meant to help in controlling the loads as some distance decrease back as we are able to pass into historic previous. Even the politics of the main primitive tribes of immediately are framed as religious innovations. this could replace right into an prolonged answer, there are fairly some texts on it in college libraries. i visit in straightforward terms factor out that a minimum of one / 4 of the previous Teatament is excited by social habit which includes regulations, the rights of kings and how all and sundry is to handle one yet another. 2 total books, Numbers and Deuteronomy, are no longer something yet civil regulation.

Interesting question. Most religions do have this in common. Even those that came before Christianity.
Perhaps people need to set limits for themselves and religion could have been a way to do so.
We have laws today. Back then they had religion to try to keep things in order.
Dont kill, dont steal and all that. Most religions have these basics "rules" in common.

"who would die for a lie?"
Every single prisoner on death row who is "innocent."
There are two ways to lead people, respect and fear. Respect must be maintained and is easily lost. Fear can drive people to do anything. So which tactic is easier to control people with?

you are thinking in the nowadays world, just think of a different time, when almost everyone was poor and there were a few rich people who controlled the poor, they knew the poor outnumbered them so they needed a way to keep them submissive...what better way than religion? religion tells people : be content with being poor because when you die you will be rewarded and aas well it tells people dont commit suicide (that would mean less people working for the master) because it is a sin.
Sex means uncontrol people who are lead by their passions are more difficult to control.
