If you can't hear it, how do you KNOW if a tree has fallen?

No, your ear turns vibration into sound. Until the vibration hits your ear it remains just a vibration. Thus` the answer would be NO.

hello!? Why do philosophers always ask this question?? Of course it still makes noise! A giant tree falling is ALWAYS going to make creaking, snapping wood noises as it crashes thru it's neighboring trees to the forest floor, even if it's only witnessed by wilderness critters and the other trees. But wait a moment. How many times have you seen reports of trees spontaneously falling over? Pretty unlikely I'd say. 99.6% of the time, if a tree falls it was because of human intervention. the other 4% I will give to bug eaten trees in old age in a wind storm and strong bears knocking down young sapplings, or forest fires.

It makes vibrations. If you have an ear drum that can transmit those vibrations to an interpretive machine (the brain) that is programmed a particular way, then you have sound. Note that if you wire the brain differently, the vibrations might make you see colors or taste particular flavors. So a tree falling in the woods might do many things depending upon your physiology.

Depends on if the tree hits the ground, without anyone near, then there's a sound that nobody will hear.

does a deaf person still make a sound even though he cants hear it? Of course its all a part of nature. And what deaf people say is still important so is the falling tree.

it makes a sound whether it falls or not...wind rustling its leaves cause a sound to be made, so of course if it fell, the animals hiding would hear it...just because a person isn't around doesn't mean that there is no other living things there...

It would make a noise because it's a tree and has no way of knowing if there was no one around.
This was proven to be fact after a thorough investigation by special branch

yes.
just because there is no one around, that doesn't mean it doesn't make a sound. if you put an alarm clock for 6 but no one is there to hear it, it will still ring and make a sound.
