You have to get flea meds. DO NOT GET ANY OVER THE COUNTER. You need Frontline or another high grade flea med.
You can find them online for cheap, but the OTC ones are dangerous.
As long as your kitten is over 5 months old, she will be fine with the meds. Also, vacuum your house every day to make sure you pick up all flea eggs.

Indoor cats still get fleas. Flea can enter houses as easy as anything. You saw one flea, but there will be more!
Get a flea treatment from a vet - if the kitten is under 8 weeks of age, it will need to be Frontline spray, which can be used on kittens from 2 days of age.
As the first answerer wisely said, don't use any OTC products - nothing from pet stores. You won't find any treatments here for under 12 week olds anyway - plus they don't work and many are toxic, so they should not even be used on adult animals.

If you are near a petsmart you should go there and get the frontline spray. It only takes a little spray on the back of their neck. If you don't have a petsmart, you can get it from a farm supply or a vet. It is what I use on my cat because it is much safer and doesn't effect their nervous system like other flea meds do. One of my other cats ended up with seizures that lasted 6 months because of advantix.

Where there's one there's many so you need to kill them now. It depends on how old your kitten is. Ask you vet to make sure of the dosage. Fleas can jump on you out in the yard and you inadvertently bring them in the house riding on your shoes or jeans. If your neighbors have pets and aren't treating them it will be a hard battle to win.

Sometimes fleas can get tracked into the house on your feet. It is best to keep your kitten on a monthly preventative like revolution, advantage or frontline.

You need to get online and buy a product called Advantage. That's the only thing that keeps them off our cats and our furniture.
