Someone said how odd of God to choose the Jews. Why did God pick the Jews? Why did he choose them?

But not so odd as those who choose a Jewish God but spurn the Jews!
God chose the Jews based on the faith of Abraham. Abraham so trusted in God that he was prepared to kill the son he had waited all his life for. So in return, God blessed him and his descendants:

"The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all people; but because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your ancestors."- Deuteronomy 7: 7-8

God bless

'how odd of God to choose the Jews'

It's a great rhyme. I wouldn't take it too literally though. You can read the Torah, but I'm not sure if you'll find the line which says just why it happened. Is it not more presented to the effect that God spoke and the Jews listened where others didn't? If you interpret it that way, the Jews picked God. I don't profess to know what's really going on though.

It`s rather funny that it only apears in thier book. So perhaps it just made the story read a little better.
I think that if a god was to choose a people he would choose people such as the native Abos of Australia, or the likes.
It would be a very strange god that would choose a warmungering peoples to be his favourites unless of course he is a cruel warmungering god.

God needed to groom a specific culture to full fill a specific role. Since the original Jews were willing to leave their family to start a life of their own (which was rare back then) They showed they they could be independent from what their society expected of them. He also had to pick a group that when they accomplished great things it could be recognized that it was God doing the wondrous things. Exp. If Goliath had of killed David, Goliath would have gotten all the credit, but since David killed Goliath everyone open to the idea of God gave God the credit. God needed a group of Davids so when wonderful things happened to them God would be recognized.

Just my incomplete theory anyway.

God choose the Jews, because of Abraham was obedient (because when God said to Abraham to leave Ur, he took everything he have and did as God has ordered him) and faithfull.
You can read in the Bible Nehemiah 9:7...

Well, whatever people he would have picked, we would have been asking the same thing. Someone had to be chosen. God knowing the end from the beginning knew the Jews would reject Christ. The "chosen people" was just the avenue God used to redeem the entire world, knowing no humans are perfect and the "chosen people", whoever they were, would reject his love.

That my friend is a very interesting question. When I became a Christian one of the things that convinced me that the Bible is real is the very fact that everyone hates the Jews? Why? Have you ever thought of that? This small little country, and seems that the WHOLE world is focused on it...

Don't know why God choose them to reveal himself to mankind, but I am glad he did.

Based upon the faithfulness of Abraham. He carried out God's command to sacrifice his own son, Isaac. This was a foreshadowing of God's sacrifice of His Son Jesus.
