I'm going crazy. My Chihuahua is 10/11 weeks old. I've had her since she was 6 weeks old. I also have another dog that she loves and they are best of friends. I have been trying to potty train this chi since I got her. I take her out every 20 mins or so, after every meal, after she wakes, during the middle of the night... ALL the time. She goes outside and potties every time. Problem is, she doesn't 'get it.' I'll put her down or get her out of her kennel (she's in there when I can't watch her constantly and not for long periods at all) and she'll actually sqaut, pee, stare right at me, wag her tail and then head for the door to go out. She pee's on my bed, in her kennel, on my duaghters bed, on the couch.. it's driving me mad! She pee's everytime she goes out... but she will pee a few drops and save the rest for all over the house I guess. dunno what to dooooooooo! I'm forever outside with her... tell her good girl and give her treats... any advice? ~~tired of pee n poop~~

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!!! I was soooo frustrated with my Chi, because no matter how many times I took her out, she would pee in the house. WIERD.

What I started doing was putting newspaper down somewhere in the house and then she would only pee in that spot. But we still had accidents and boy is that messy. I also tried a litter box...and she ate the litter! LOL!

THEN....I put a doggy door in and it was overnight results. She NEVER messed in the house again after that. I have tried EVERYTHING. The doggy door was the best best best thing I ever did.

Why house training your chihuahua puppy is so important? To make your life easier! When your dog finds out he is your master, instead of the opposite, you are in big trouble because your chihuahua puppy will do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Chihuahua puppy training tips become handy in this situation because it will help you to teach your puppy proper behaviour and it will put you in the right position.

A few general chihuahua puppy training tips

1. If you have kids, teach them how to behave with the new chihuahua puppy (and with any other dog for that matter). Kids need to know how to approach a puppy, slowly, letting the puppy smell them. If you don't teach them that, they might get bitten by the puppy which can lead to them being scared of dog for a very long time.

2. Give them toys to chew instead of your shoes or other personal items. This way, your chihuahua puppy will learn what's his and what is not, which should help you save a lot of shoes! A good cord is great to keep your chihuahua puppy teeth clean. The favourite toy of my cocker spaniel is the Kong. I make him homemade dog biscuits that I put in the Kong and he plays with it a lot. There is a tiny version of the Kong that can be a great toy for your chihuahua.

3. Teach the basic commands like sit and stay using treats and a gentle voice when your chihuahua puppy does it right.

Yes! I have a chihuahua and I gave her ham when teaching her how to shake.... she learned in just three minutes! I also use it sometimes for potty training, when I run out of treats. Just dont give her too much ham!

Your puppy is still fairly young. Have you gotten any of those puppy pee pads? They are worth investing in. They are around $7 for a pack.. When your puppy pees in the house, soak up the pee in the pad, it will show her that this is the place to pee inside. Most puppies don't like to poop where they pee. Put down, away from the pee pad and where the puppy poops in the house and put down newspaper . The next time that the puppy poops, put it on the paper , not the puppy sees where you want him to pee & poop in the house. This is temporary until the puppy learns to go outside all the time
At this young age it is ok for puppy to have places in the house. Once these are soiled you take the poop outside wher e you want the baby to poop. And rub the pee pad places you want the puppy to pee.

Eventually puppy will no longer need these pads.

Puppy needs lots of praise when going outside. Going inside on the pads you can give a more mellow praise.

When puppy pees or poops inside. Be firm saying NO. And have a very serious look on your face. You can't talk in long sentences to dogs. They often just pick up one word that they know. so, if you say. "you are suck a bad baby dog, shame on your. you are suppose to go outside, bad dog" Most likely the dog will hear the two words he knows which are go outside and has no idea of all the other words. Single word instructions are best for dogs.
For instance I let my little one pretend fight with me, he nips gently at the hand and fingers. When I want to stop playing I hold up my hand, palm facing his face and firmly say NO. No need to yell. just say no.I am amazed that the dog stops .

The most important part of trainning a dog to be polite and obedient is consostence. That is up to you.
My dog knows that I can't bend over and put his leash on, well I can but it hurts my back. I have taught him to get up on the Lazy Boy Rocker when I bring out the leash. I have been tempted to bend over at times and leash on him, but if I am inconsistent he will be trouble.

Yes, you can give her a treat when she goes outside. Give her lots of loves and cuddles.

You kind of dog can be very nervous. My dog is half chih and I have helped him not be so nervous about something. I hole him close to me and say very softly while petting him..........I say.........you are ok. good baby.......no bark.........good baby" Now he only barks when he feels like there is really a threat.

HI, This is the number one question Dog Owners always ask me. How to Housebreak their dogs.

You have to understand the basics. What goes in must come out and you have to know when that is. You have to put your pet on a schedule.

Sit down and make a list of times your going to feed and water them. Make sure you give enough time for them to consumpe both.

An example would be when you get up in the morning take them out then bring them in and feed, water. leave it down for about 30 minutes. Then take them out agian. If their puppies your going to have to do this several times aday. But do this atleast 3 times aday and give a little water in between the feeding. That's right, you have to pick the water up too.

You don't have to leave water down all the time if their in a controlled eviroment like a house. Outside is different. But once the food and wtaer is down for 30 miutes, pick both up.

Write down the times your going to do this, plus the times you take them out. Stick with it. If they have anaccident in the house. DON"T yell at them, just writhe down the time and see if there's a trend of going that time of a several day period. If there is, adjust the schedule to make sure they go out at that time.

Some Dogs are very hard to housebreak, but with a schedule, atleast they will know when their going to be feed and taken out.

If your going out, crate them and then when you return just continue on with the schedule. If you have any other questions. Feel free to email me.

Best wishes
