If you want to know how you did in the interview, ask the interviewer! This is called 'The Close' the point at the end of the meeting where you should try to get some feedback. There are certain steps you can take:

a. Thank the interviewer for his/her time
b. What is the next stage in the interview process?
c. How do you compare with others seen?
d. What does he/she think of your suitablility for the role?
e. What concerns do they have?
f. When will the next stage be?

The Close demonstrates your ability to sell yourself and will give you an opportunity to address any concerns that may have arose during the interview. When they give you their reservations these should be seen as further opportunities to sell yourself. Ask again for a second interview or further consideration. Lastly, when closing ensure you use open questions. Asking questions such as 'Do you have any reservations?' will prompt the obvious reply of 'No'.

Good luck!

It would have been nice to know what kind of job you were going for: pizza delivery? hospital intern? computer programmer? CEO?

Unless it's a small company, it's doubtful that you'll get an offer at the first interview.

These days, many companies need to run a criminal, drug, and/or medical background check on just about everyone. Also, many bosses are "afraid" to hire someone without getting a gazillion levels of approval, first! After all, nobody wants to be known as the one who hired "bad" people without consulting others (I'm not saying that you're bad!).

In my entire 30 year career, the only jobs I've been offered while I was still at the first interview were "any-monkey-could-do-it" jobs and a few jobs that I didn't want! Murphy's Law!

Keep in mind, that just because you don't get the job, doesn't mean you didn't interview well. You may get called in for a second interview, if the company is narrowing down their candidates. But you can do well on an interview, and still not get the job. Someone else may have better skills, experience, or know the boss's wife.

the best thing to do is do your best, answer the questions truthfully, completely and with conviction. If they don't hire you from that, chances are you probably are not meant for the job, or will hate it because it doesn't suit you. Never take not getting hired, it will be a blessing in disguise.

Good luck.
