Because a 14 year old girl is just that: a girl, a child. She doesn't have the maturity, knowledge, and experience necessary to make the kind of choices one has to in an adult relationship. There is no appropriate reason for a 25 year old man to be interested in a relationship with a 14 year old girl. Those 3 years between 14 and 17 are tremendously important in a persons, boy or girl, emotional and intellectual growth.

It is the way the law is written. Both a 35 year old and a 23 year old are consenting adults and can enter into any type of relationship they choose.

In your second case, while a 17-year old is not considered an adult, in most states, they are above the age of consent. This means that they can enter into a romantic or sexual relationship with almost anyone they choose. Some states have some age difference limitations and the laws really vary state to state.

For your last case, a 14 year old does not have the legal right to enter into a romantic or sexual relationship with an adult. While they may be able to legally enter into such a relationship with another minor, in most states they have not passed the age of consent.

In your first example, both people are recognized as adults by our society. In your second, the 17 yr old is just months away from legal adulthood (although I am fairly sure that most States still have laws about sex with anyone under the age of 18 so I don't think this is a good example for you to use in this argument).

In your 3rd example, for starters, a 14 year old is NOT a "woman", she is a girl. Secondly, she is still a child, a freshman in High School, and a 25 yr old male should not be naturally attracted to someone who only became a teenager the year before. That is f'ed up!! No 14 year old has the mental abilities to make the kind of decisions needed to maintain a relationship with a 25 yr old. That is still 2 years away from driving, 4 years away from being able to vote, 4 years away from being able to enter into lawful contracts/agreements (like loans, rental agreements, etc) and not capable of taking care of themselves in the real world. At 14 you just left JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, You have ZERO High School education, no college, and most places won't give you a job. If you are going to be in a relationship with an adult, who is almost double your age, you ought to be able to take care of yourself financially, legally and in all other ways. Long before our time it was decided that 17-18 is the age that someone technically becomes an adult. Once they hit that age, they "should" be able to make smart decisions that affect their lives.

I know you said you were 17, so I was not referring my examples to you personally, just using the pronoun to complete the sentences. ;)

Because at age 14 the female in question is still legally a CHILD whereas the male in question is an ADULT. Oh and legally its not ok for a 17yr old female to go with a 23 yr old male. Its the same situation. In both cases the male can actually be put in jail.

For starter at 14 years old you are NOT a woman, you are a teenager. While on the other hand he IS an adult.

I agree with the first poster. This will seem soo much clearer to you when you have a 14 year old daughter.

Because the law says that a 14 year old girl can't make decision for herself. The law also says you will go to prison at 17 if you have sex with her.
