Yes, until you listren to something recorded in 7.1 surround you really won't appreciate it. There is only a few now but it is only a touch ahead of it's time and believe me, when you heard a movie that has 7.1, you will understand. It won't be long, nearly all will be 7.1 recorded. Good Choice! I have it and I really appreciate it. Depending o the size of you living room, mine is very large so I put the center where it belongs, right uder the TV and the other two large ones on each sidce of it away from the TV, I put the Bass close to the front, and two of the rear speakers is in the middle of the room up high on each side and the other two, in the rear. They are called sattelite speakers. Your book will give you ideas on where to put them depending on the size of your living room. Be ahead or your time too. Electronics are quick to pass us by.

A 7.1 system consists of having three speakers in the front which are the front left, center, and front right. In back of you four speakers are located instead of the normal 2 in 5.1 setup. They are suppose to be set up so that two speakers face the back of your head, while two speakers face the side of your head. The extra two speakers help create better surround sound. Also the .1 is the sub woofer. To show you how this is all suppose to look like here is a link http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/129025.jpg
