I am considering a Pioneer PDP-6010FD Television but it is only rated at 720p but has the capability to accept a 1080p input. Will the display reflect true 1080p quality?

First of all Pioneer PDP-6010FD is Full-HD (1080p). Check the specifications on Pioneer site.

In my knowledge there are no 60 inch plasma TV with 720p resolution or lower than 1080p for that matter. If I am wrong and you do find one don't buy it. I recommend against buying a large size plasma TV with a small resolution because the small resolution will be noticed more easy (unless you intend to stay very far away from it when watching).

Usually a plasma TV (or LCD) that has the capability to accept 1080p but has the screen of a lower resolution (like 720p) is called a "HD-Ready" whereas one that accepts 1080p and also has a REAL 1080p resolution is called a "Full-HD". A HD-Ready display will allow you to watch 1080p HDTV input but the quality you will experience will be that of your display resolution (720p in this case). That means if you are watching 1080p HDTV content on a 720p screen you will experience less quality and detail than if it would be 1080p screen. If however you will watch an input signal of 720p you will not see any difference between 1080p and 720p resolution.

I also suggest you to make sure that you will be watching your screen from an optimal distance. Consult the "Choosing the best plasma TV size" guide (link below). If you watch a large screen from a too small distance you will not benefit from the best image quality because you will make out the pixels that make up the screen/image. If you don't have enough room for a 60 inch TV better choose a smaller one.

I hope this answered your question.

NO....the native resolution of your Tv set is 720.

The TV can CONVERT a 1080P signal into a 720 signal so your TV can display it....

The only way to keep it from down-converting the 1080P signal is to select a TV set with a 1920 x 1080 NATIVE RESOLUTION DISPLAY PANEL....
