I wouldn't hang anything over the stove, myself.
However, I have a neighbor with an over-the-
stove sign that reads: "I'd like to help you out.
Which way did you come in?"

I would stay away from a picture frame, but you can still add art!
I would take a bunch of old dishes and smash them up and create and nice mosaic for that area. Get an old piece of wood and put some tiling mortar on it. Place your pieces and wait for them to dry. Once they are dry, add a thin layer of the mortar, also called grout, and work it into the cracks. then once it has had a few minutes to set up, take a damp sponge and lightly wipe it off the dish mosaic taking care not to wipe it out of your cracks. once it has dried for 48 hours, add some picture hanging wire and hang it up! SUPER CHEAP, SUPER CUTE and lots of Style!! It will add interest and then you can brag and say that you did it yourself!! Good Luck!

I would only do something non-flammable. Usually you have a range hood or under-counter microwave there. The safest thing to put up would be metal racks to hold some of your most often used spices or utensils etc.

besides a hood with builtin light/fan or how about microwave to save counter space. not sure exactly what kind of space we're referring to. decor is something up to the person. some sort of shelving to place ur spices. a few plants. ??
not sure we don't have a lot of space above ours.
good luck.

Don't hang anything flammable over it. You can get metal or ceramic trivets if you want something temporary but decorative. Or, if you're feeling espcially industrious, you can install a tile or stone backsplash.

Hang a nice wrought iron piece. You can paint it to match the colors of your kitchen. Even a wrought iron plate hanger. They sell them on EBay.
