It is not the hair it is the dander. Labradoodle stopped being bred as seeing eye dogs for allergic people because they found them to be just about as allergen causing as the Labs.
It is pretty risky getting a dog if people in the family are known to be allergic. It is not fair to the dog if you get it and then have to give it up.

For some people, allergens present in dog saliva and skin cells (dander) can cause allergies. While there is no totally non-allergenic dog, the good news is that some breeds do seem to cause fewer allergies. Typically, it's because these breeds don't shed as much fur, or they have a coat that requires frequent bathing. Smaller dogs also produce less saliva than bigger dogs.
These 10 breeds seem to cause the fewest allergies.
1. Poodle
Poodles come in various sizes, colors and coat lengths.
2.Schnauzers come in three sizes: Miniature, standard and giant. All types are good choices for people with dog allergies.
3. Portuguese Water Dog
The Portuguese Water Dog is a close relative of the poodle.
4. Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
All varieties of the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier appear to be good choices for people who suffer from dog allergies. The various varieties include Traditional Irish, Heavy Irish, English, and American types.
5. Maltese
The Maltese belongs to the toy-size class of dogs, and it does not shed. It has been suggested that the fact that these dogs are frequently bathed/groomed helps to reduce their ability to cause allergies.
6. Lhasa Apso
Lhasa Apsos are another small breed of dog that does not shed its coat. The fact that these small dogs are frequently bathed may be one reason why people with dog allergies have few symptoms with owning this breed.
7. Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies, as they are frequently called, is another toy-sized breed of dog. Their reputation as a hypoallergenic breed may be in part due to their small size.
8. Shih Tzu
Shih Tzus are yet another small breed of dog that likely owe their hypoallergenic nature to their small size and need for frequent bathing and grooming by their owners. They also don't shed much.
9. Irish Water Spaniel
Irish Water Spaniels somewhat resemble the appearance of a poodle, with similar hypo-allergenic coats.
10. Kerry Blue Terrier
Kerry Blue Terriers are another breed recommended by the American Kennel Club as a good choice for people with dog allergies.
i suggest www.petfinder.com
you will often times find shih tzus in shelters .Meet the dog first and see how your brother reacts then decide wheterher or not to adopt.
I do not suggest a "labradoodle" because it is a mixed there is no way to predict whether or not it will be ok with allergies.

I don't think any of them can actually reduce allergies but I could be wrong. I do know there are certain breeds with out the certain dander that causes more allergies. Mostly poodles and chihuahuas that I know of. my mom's had a bad history of allergies and she's not bothered in the least by my chihuahua.

None will reduce your allergies. If you are allergic to dog's then stick with Poodles, Schnauzers, Cockapoo's and the like. You can find a list online.

I think chinese cresteds are less likely to cause allergies since they have very little hair, but I'm not 100% sure. I have heard of another dog that can reduce allergies, but I can't think of the breed right now.

shitzu are great intelligent dogs I have many health problems and his hair does NOT kick my alleries up at all I don't even usually have to take meds around him unless its allergy season then it still isn't caused from his hair but they are long hair dogs maybe thats why? try one out they are wonderful pets. But be warned they are like 800.00 dogs unless you have friends and can get a discount, but very much worth it i would be so lost without Jake(my dog) hope this helped you

Get allergy shots, as ALL dogs produce dander. If you can't afford allergy shots, you can't afford to get a puppy and then take it back when you're all sneezing!
