I'm very interested in photography as a hobbie. What can I do to learn about it? What the best way to start? Any book or cd that you'd recommend? Thanks.

Take alot of pictures and then study them to learn what to do better next time! Take notes on what worked, what didn't work. Ask someone who's photos you admire to teach you what they know and to critique your photos. There are alot of great tutorials on the internet also! I go to the public library and check out all of the photography books to see which ones I should purchase. They are very helpful and inspiring. Keep pursuing your art and don't be discouraged. It takes time and patience.

I just gave a similar answer to another question.

Books and videos are great, and you should go to the library and take out a bunch that appeal to you. That being said, just studying won't make you a good photographer. This is a hands on kind of thing.

I'd suggest you join my Digital Photography Yahoo Group. Go out, take a few photos, post then to the group and request some constructive criticism. Take that info, shoot some things again, and repeat the process.

Sometimes you learn more just by doing it.

Here is the group...

its like anything people wish to learn, the best way is goto school.....thats how ppoeple learn things fastest and best..........thats why every country in the world has schools...........so a nite school course would be a good start

if your not really after the "best" way to learn then books will do, the problem is you cant ask a book a question, it wont sit down and "teach" you, critique your work or help out where you really need it

i get hassles for saying school is the best way to learn - from people who went to school to learn things like maths, science etc - somehow they think they are smarter than trainded photography teachers and its best to self teach?

that would depend on what you want to learn. If your worried about composition you're better off taking a bunch on photos of the same thing from different prospectives and diff lighting and figuring out things that look intersting to you. little excersises like that. If you mean learning about things like aperture and the tech side of things a KISS or Idiots Guide is a good intro.
