Well the initial celebration was to celebrate Jesus birth. But the retail stores have commericalized the holiday way too much. Most people have forgotten what Christmas is really all about. As for the Old Testament it is for a reference, after the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus the New Testament books are what Christian's look to for instructions on following his example..

Could you explain to me how those verses forbid celebrating Christmas? If you want to say Deuteronomy 12:32 means we should only do what the Bible commands and nothing it does then there is much we do that we should not. Where in the Bible does it give you permission to drive? Where does it command you to go to the bathroom? Where does it say you can watch tv?

Are you "serving Thor" today?
NO??
But, today is "Thursday"...which is "Thor's day". One of the ways in which Thor is worshiped is by the name of his day. Those who worship Thor named this day "Thursday"...and you are doing the same.
You have added to what God commanded you to do.
You are a hypocrite.
But, it is not for me to judge God's servant, is it? Of course not! I don't know you, but I would guess that you have no intention of worshiping Thor simply by calling this day "Thursday". You may, for all I know, be one of the many that had no idea about "Thor's Day", or any of the other references we make regularly to "strange gods".
Now that you know, will you begin to call this the fifth day of the week? Or, if it is after sunset, it is already the sixth day...
For me, this is the day that the Lord has made, and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Even though it is "Thor's Day", I will regard it unto the Lord.
The celebration of Christ's Mass is almost as old as Christianity, itself. It is quite possible that it began as a way for Christians who were severely persecuted to thank God for sending Christ. Through the centuries, the sacred day picked up traditions from all over the world...wherever there were Christians to celebrate the coming of Christ, there was some sort of remembrance of His birth.
Today, most of the Christian world has chosen this time to express their awe at the birth of God into the world, in a human body. Somehow, I just don't see Jesus as sulking over Santa Claus bringing gifts to the little one's in His name, or even upset about Christmas trees, or any other treasured Christmas Tradition...He knows our hearts, and He knows if the intention is to glorify Him, or just to get gifts...
But I also know that there are folks who see God as this "Avenging Warrior"... I do feel sorry for folks like that. They miss so much of the wonder of God's love...

Tell the Watchtower Society not to be so ridiculous. God knows each one of us and he can also see what's in our hearts and mind, so he is wise enough to see and understand that we ARE NOT part of any of those religions just because we celebrate whatever we want.
1 Corinthians 10:31
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

Christmas (The feast of Saturnalia) is just one of the things the early church borrowed from other religions. However if I were you I would not bother too much with Deuteronomy or Leviticus. I don't think even serious theologians take much notice of those now

Christians are like the Magi - They brought gifts and they worshiped Jesus.
Christmas is a celebration of the coming of God in the flesh. Our calender may be off but our focus is not.

Sorry, that verse has nothing to do with worshipping Jesus Christ. It has to do with bowing down before false gods.
If someone doesn't want to celebrate Christmas, that's fine. I do, and I don't see any problem with it, biblically or otherwise.
