It very much depends on the charity you choose to give to. It is important to be a good steward of your money and know what it is you are accomplishing with your giving.

I work for LEAVES Military Ministries, Inc. We take donations very seriously, they are funds entrusted to us to use only for our Heroes.

Currently, donations from our board more than cover our "operating" expenses and our "fund raising" expenses. Some poorly managed or downright fraudulent charities use most or even all of their donations in these categories. By having the board cover our basic expenses, we ensure all of our outside donor's money goes straight to helping the people who need it. I am very proud of that.

In short, know who you are giving to, but don't let that stop you from giving. Most donations don't come from the super wealthy, but from lots of people like you giving what they can. Know how much you want to give and then find the best place(s) to give it.

I live below the poverty level myself, but I have never been unable to get by without the 10% I am committed to giving each month.

The Locks of Love hair that fits their criteria gets used, but a lot of people don't submit their hair correctly. Either it's too short, too gray, too damaged, or something else. The confusion is that a lot of the hair goes to people who lost their hair from things other than cancer. So, the hair that can be used gets used, but not for kids with cancer as you might think.

Otherwise, yes, the money in donation boxes gets used for charity, and yes, your donations go where you think they go. There are not a lot of scams out there, and I wish people would take the time to visit charities and see how the people there work really hard to help others, with little money.

I do not know how far it is true. But since young, i never donated to welfare organization, i would rather help the needy and poor myself. It makes me more satisfied and happy to see them benefitting from it thru my own eyes.
