I've never heard of a granite stockpot... I assume the packaging or literature that came with it would advise whether it could be used on direct heat? I wouldn't think something like that could be used directly on a burner but what else what a stockpot be used for?

I'm a little confused on this one... :/

Edit: Thanks for adding the picture - now I know what you are talking about, and my parents actually had one of those! They're great for anything you would use a regular pot for - soups, stews, boiling veggies, making rice, whatever!

Hi there, I'm a bit confused, is the name of the manufacturer Graniteware or is the stockpot actually MADE of Granite??? That would be awfully heavy to maneuver around the kitchen.....so I'm guessing that it's an enameled on cast iron stockpot (think: Le Cruset) Either way, it should be fine on an electric, ceramic or induction stove......Enjoy!!

ADDENDUM/EDIT:

That will work fine for your rice and also soups, stews and other large quantity foods you'd like to make, thanks for updating and showing a pic......Now I know what you're talking about........BTW, you'll get years of faithful service out of that stockpot..........I have one that's a 60 liter, and love it for soups, stocks and especially (since it's soooooooo tall) for steaming King Crab Legs........

the best and easiest way to cook rice: 1part rice&2parts water...plus seasoning.....NO OIL OR BUTTER!.....in any baking dish...cover with foil....bake exactly for 40 minutes at 400 degs.....take off foil....let air-cool.....100%foolproof! enamelware stockpot is great for soups....
