I'm not sure. I grew up in the church and have been a Christian since adolescence and I've never thumped a Bible, nor has anyone at church. But apparently it's a way for some non-believers to bash Christians. Being one of the bashees, it must be over my head.

It's a term that is applied to overly dramatic christians always trying to convert others. It derives from the habit of TV preachers marching back and forth across a platform with an open bible and constantly pointing to or hitting, thumping, the book.

Bible thumping is loudly promoting the Bible.
In the UK it's also called Bible bashing, although apparently in the USA Bible bashing means criticizing the Bible.

it is when some one preaches the bible to death trying to convert you but not actually conforming to what it says them selves or even really knowing what it says when they start preaching it.
