Parents always want their children to be successful. They want them to achieve more than they did. You are doing a good thing. Your parents will be proud of you.

Problem is that your Father probably never exposed himself to failure in front of you. Most don't. You may think that you know your Dad but I doubt it. no more than he really knows you. If he cares he should let you see that he does fail to some extent at some things. In doing so you can learn that it's not the end of the world to make a mistake. You can recover.
Suggest, you work on your shoes and not worry about his.
You'll be a lot happier and he will be proud of you.

Wanting to reach your full potential can be very God honoring. And a little friendly competitive spirit can help motivate you to reach that potential.
Being too competitive can be harmful, however. Don't get too big headed that you look down upon your own father when you finally surpass him.

"Honor your father and mother"— which is the first commandment with a promise — "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

Its in the middle, its great that you want to go a level or two above your father. Every son does that. Now if you goals are set to high then one failure will set you back, I can sense that you are a very very competitive person and if you don't meet one of your goals to be better then him it may cause you to become depressed. modify your goals a little then go from there.
just dot set yourself up for failure.

While it is good to want to do better than your parents. I am sure your parents want life to be better for you than you had it. Likewise, you will also think the same way about your children. However, I think in life the greatest competition is to compete against yourself!

It's good to have role models. The question is, are you doing this to make him proud or to humiliate him? Have you considered just trying to do your best in any case instead of framing it as a competition?

Not at all. Each generation should strive to surpass the last. This is how society advances.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to better your life. Just as long as you are doing it for the right reasons. Are you doing it to better yourself or just to out-do your father?

It's a great thing. Your dad should want the same for you. I want my children to excel way beyond me. If you use it right, and apply it right, you'll be great oneday. S A L U T E to you.

It's not a bad question, but not a good one either. It's always important that we set goals for ourselves that take us further in life. But, we should compare ourselves to others. We need to be ourselves and strive to be all we can. What might be your father's weakness could be our strength and what might be his strength could be our weakness.
