I have a 9 week old Jack Russell Terrier female. Yes I know the temperment and activity levels of this dog. She is so small though I was wondering if the can maintain a good jogging pace for long distance. If so what age should she be ready for some short jogs. I love her little attitude, and she is beyond smart.

It's a little young, but most JRTs would be great jogging companions. It'll keep them in shape and burn off some of that JRT energy. I'd wait until she's older. I'd say at least a month or two old.

8 weeks is too young for a puppy to start jogging. Just like with people, you have to condition her to be able to maintain a good pace. She'll be able to jog at a pretty good pace by a year or so but remember, they're small so you can never really go too fast without over-exerting them.

Edit: Sorry, **9 weeks..... I'm blind.

Nine weeks is rather young to put a dog, any dog, on a jogging schedule with you. They are easily distracted and they are not completely developed at that age.

Yep...they are smart, I'll agree with that. I'd say that you should ask your vet if it's safe for your dog to go for jogs with you and it's also a good idea to make sure that your dog is well trained and knows how to heel.

JRTS are ideal for taking you jogging (!). They are busy bees and this is just the sort of excersise that can keep them in a calm state! Even though she's a small breed, I wouldn't really jog with her til about a year, and start on grass / soft ground only, for a good while. Until then, make sure she gets lots of daily walks, alot of them on pavements, to harden up her pads. Remember to take water for her when you are jogging, and don't go out in the mid-day heat. So, you've a few months to wait, but good on you for thinking ahead!

all of us right here seems suggesting puppies, even nevertheless for my area an grownup dogs from a look after or rescue is a magnificent decision. maximum cases an grownup dogs has had some small volume of person-friendly guidance (however in the event that they supply the impact of being to have forgotten it) so obedience guidance is easier, housebreaking is usually already carried out and that they simply prefer a refresher direction in it. additionally you do not could take care of each and all of the domestic dog subject concerns mutually with chewing destructively, boundless domestic dog potential and so on. even nevertheless, you may only make particular you communicate intensively to the look after with regard to the dogs, see if it is been temperament examined and if not then ask them to permit you to objective the dogs around cats and teenagers. Spend some time with the dogs which you're thinking and make certain your personalities compliment one yet another. in case you make an effort to try this, you've a great dogs whom you and it comprehend which you saved it is existence. remember, grownup dogs prefer loving residences additionally and that they frequently cases would be placed to sleep first on the look after because of the fact "all of us" needs puppies.
