I recommend you get something that is used, but in good condition. You may have to re-tube the amp, but that's normal for ANY used amp, usually. Look at Ebay to see what is available at those prices, and then check the Harmony Central website for reviews. I got my favorite amplifier that I now use for $800 less because I bought it used. It needed some work, but it was a working professional's amp, so it was bound to need some minor "TLC". After I did that and re-tubed it... WOW! This is the golden age of amp building, so for $800 you are bound to find something great if you look carefully for a "boutique" type amp, used.

Depends on what instrument, I am assumming a guitar. Fender makes some great amps in your price range. Ampeg has some good ones too. Pekey and Crate. Go to this site
