There is nothing he can do. I doubt his attorney will front him any money. But he can ask - he would not be the first to ask the attny what to do.

Here's the process:

Once he gets better and completes treatment - (has to get well first) - his lawyer will order copies of his medical bills/reports. This can take up to 8 weeks to get.

Once all med bills/reports in - lawyer puts together a demand package and send it to ins co. How long this takes depends on lawyer.

Ins Co receives demand package and reviews it. If info missing - will let lawyer know so he can order what ever is missing.

Then negotiations begin. Again, this depends on lawyer.

Once ins co and lawyer agree on value - ins co sends check and release.

Lawyer pays med providers, pays himself and then pays client (your friend).

Homeless shelters may be an answer. State welfare office, social security disability, the possibility of staying with an invalid just to summon help if needed, assistance from Churches, house sitting for vacationers. Hope something works.

Find out (like now) if he qualifies for State Disability, he probably does. State is temporary, only lasts for 1 year.

Forget about federal disability, unless he is permanently injured and will not be able to work for more than a year or so. Federal is really hard to get, much stricter qualifications than state.

Nothing he can do really until the case is over, I've heard of some lawyers who will front you a loan until the case is over and they win but it's got to be a sure thing and not all lawyers will do that
