I have seen cake toppers that are just the inital of the last name of the groom and bride. My husband and I had a unique topper but it wasn't really a cake topper. My husband is fond of frogs and I adore turtles, my Mom found a knick-knack of a frog sitting on the back of a turtle. We used that on our cake and had the cake designed around it, the cake was decorated to look like a pond (light blue fondant with water lillies and lillypads all over)

Try making one yourself. You can pick up some polymer clay from the craft store for less than 5$. It stays soft until you bake it and comes in many colors if you want.
You can also post a notice at your local college and get a sculpture studio major to make you one for much cheaper than a regular company.
Perhaps you can have a date night with your fiancee and he can sculpt you and you can sculpt him for the cake. And, even if you decide not to use them it's only $5 whereas custom made cake toppers will run $100 if not more!

Go to www.designsbydorian.com. You send in a picture and they make a topper for you and they did a great job! They have a skateboard guy.
