Darlin', a couple things:
If he can't make and freeze his own meals for his hunting trip OR he can't cook a meal from scratch on a wood stove..... who is going to be there to take care of a deer if he harvests one??

I do this a few times a year for hunting trips, plus I've got quite a bit of experience trail cooking, and this is definitely the way to go with an informal group. It's great to come into camp and have a REAL meal that took 10 minutes from pannier to table. Way better than weenies in a can and hormel chili...
I don't want to bore you with a million recipes, but here's a few ideas that freeze, hold, and cook up well -- chicken and dumplings, beef stroganoff, spagetti (with sauce and meat already in there), ham and noodles, pork and beans, steak, potato, and onion hash, stew, and even chili (not Hormel :)).
Invest in one of those Food Saver things (or the "suck and seal" as we call it). It vacuums out the air and then heat seals. A few things I learned using one is to double seal each end, and let the food cool to luke warm before packaging it up. It had a real wreck once because the food was too hot and melted the seal and I had chili for 8 all over my kitchen floor. It was awful. Anyhow, to heat them up, all you need is one pot. We've had the best luck allowing the food to thaw most of the day and then just pouring it in and heating it up when we were ready to eat.
Hope I was able to help!

gosh dang-it painteed pony stole my thunder
that is what I do stew chili ect in a food saver bag then I either put the frozen bag with the corner cut to allow venting and put it in a pot with simmering water or let it thaw and pour it out of the bag into the pot and heat
beats the heck out of the heat and eat meals that you can buy in the store
