My wife watches the cop video shows, sometimes i will watch with her. How exactly is it justifed to charge a person in a police chase with assaulting an officer? I can understand it if the person rams the cop or the cruiser, but in a lot of the cases the cops rammed the car with the cruiser. Also, when a cop hits another cop or cruiser is he charged with assaulting a police officer? seems like there are some strange charges on thoe shows.

Its a TV show, its not truly reality. While some of that stuff happens, it does not happen on such a regular basis. It's all about the ratings.

Any time the runner comes in contact with the law enforcement vehicle, he takes the blame. Next time you are watching, listen to the person describing the action. Cops that hit other cruisers are doing their job at the time and it is just an accident. Often, the offender is charged during a bail-out also.

Might have something to do with the fact that the bad guy is INTENTIONALLY ramming Police vehicles and the Police Officers are hitting each other accidentally?

Add to it the fact that an Officer has the authority to use force(Ramming a car or PIT manuver) to stop the bad guy.

It is likely that if a person is trying to get away, once the person is caught by police he is going to resist. Even him just trying to push an officer away or off of him is assault.

Just as you can't push any other person, you can't push an officer. It's not a weird law, if you push anyone it can be assault.
