Just for the hell of it, I did a search on q/a involving beliefs on Hell. I looked at a good, good several questions.

In EVERY case, questions reguarding Hell always had tons and tons of responces. Is it possible that hell has an emotional reason for people believing in it? Could it be a subconscious desire to punish people who disagree or simply fail to adore us and our thoughts as much as we would like?

Could it be that people in power noticed this tendency and used it to keep the masses under control?

Human mind is dual. As you can see, Hell is the opposite of heaven, which both exist as idea, in our minds. Hell is the part of mind that is negative and against you. The Angelic part of mind always has encouragement and positive. Spirit here is in between the two. The war goes on! Stillness is the experience beyond experience. Peace.

I appreciate the research you have done on hell. There are more subjects written about hell in the Bible then there is about heaven.

To me, it is something more to be enlighten about , not frightened about. God is NOT going to send anyone to hell unless they choose to go there. It is meant for the devil and his angels.

A star for you for bringing this important subject up.

I heard an old preacher say, The reason I got saved is because I do not want to go to hell. He said "for one thing theres no air condition' down there! and you can't get out. " That was his opinion.

That's...different.
Actually hell is a place people send themselves to. No one throws them in and locks the door. They do it all. And if you're a Christian then your main goal in life is to reach people who are on their way to hell so that maybe, just maybe, they'll decide to turn around.

most people don't understand hell (including me) thinking that it's a physical torture place, not really understanding that there are A LOT of things worse than physical pain.

I'd say it's because hell is the hardest part of Christianity to understand because it doesn't fit with the rest of the bible.

Or possibly because it's so hard to defend for being total bullshit.

Or possibly something you said...
