You can try downloading IE7 from the webpage below, but if you have corrupted operating system files, it may not work
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspx

You might be able to get things fixed again. You may want to consider running a System File Checker (SFC). This can be run in Safe Mode should you prefer. To get into Safe Mode, reboot and then either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:

- Start
- Run
- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the " / ")

What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk, however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have major file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.

If you have the Vista operating system, the steps are a bit different due to the UAC. See the link below.
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/system_file_checker.htm

Don't surf, play games or do anything while SFC runs. After it is completed, reboot your computer.

If you are prompted for a disk, it will tell you which version, you can borrow a friend's and insert it. It isn't a reinstall situation, but rather it will copy the missing files from the other disk. It doesn't have to be your own.

There. That's for IE 6.

IE 7 was written for Vista so you really should stay with IE 6 for now since you're running XP.

But if you think you MUST have/try IE 7 then here's the link for it:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

NOTICE the DIFFERENCE in the Appearances between those two sites. The IE 7 site shows Vista's Graphics.

Additional info: Check out Firefox here:

Firefox is a LOT more secure for your computer during browsing the Internet. You'll get a LOT fewer mal-ware infestations while using it than IE. With Firefox the only thing you MAY need IE for is Windows Updates.

Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Windows Operating System ever since Windows 98. You cannot delete it.

You probably deleted the Internet Explorer Icon from the desk top but it did not go away.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start, click on Explore). Open the Programs folder (click + sign left of folder), open Internet Explorer folder, right click on the Internet Explorer icon and use the send to -->desktop choice to return the icon to desk top.
