That's already punishment. People who force others to have a child are incurring a lifetime punishment on them.
People who want an abortion will probably end up going to other countries, hurting themselves, or foisting their child on the government.
Let's hope the "pro-lifers" don't succeed.

Depends on how you view abortion. Is it murder? Pre-meditated? What is the penalty for pre-meditated murder in this country? Follow from there...
Religious convictions aside, the science is clear -- from the moment of conception, all the potential of human life is present and left to its devices, the pregnancy will either naturally terminate or will follow through to the birth of a complete human being. There is no moral fault in a natural termination; they happen without interference. Abortion, however, kills. The child is genetically distinct from its mother. It is not an undifferentiated tissue mass (there is no such thing. Tissues are by definition differentiated). Except in extremely rare cases, which constitute medical emergencies, the two being's blood systems never mingle. By the end of the first trimester, the developing child already has functional nerves that are capable of reacting to stimuli.
In short, when it's sperm and egg, there is 0% human. They lack, independantly, the ability to generate human life. Once they join though, things jump to 100% because everything needed is there.
Since the child is genetically distinct from her, it is NOT her body.
The one, ONLY time I would consider abortion to be morally acceptable is if the mother could not, even at the cost of her own life, make it to the medical age of viability. That is, if she could make it to 5 months (the current age of viability) but it would cost her her life, she is morally obligated to give her life to give her child the chance. However, if she's at three months and on her death bed because of the child, then the child is going to die one way or another and it is better to save one than to lose both.

They shouldn't be punished because somebody made a life altering decision for them. If such a thing should occur, women will resort to either dangerous back alley abortions or will use natural homeopathic methods. I have been collecting information on safer more natural methods just in case the time ever does come.

it's not for us to decide who gets punished for what.
that is God's job. He will decide who receives punishment... if they deserve it.
If abortion becomes illegal then I will be concerned.
There will still be abortions, they will be performed illegally, like they did in WWII.... with un-sterile conditions and many women will die... but that's OK just so long as the "morality police" get to force their beliefs on everybody else....right?

Tie their tubes. Take away their ability to give birth at all so they never have an abortion again.

What is the punishment for premeditated murder?
Because that is what abortion is.
If a man kills a pregnant woman in a traffic accident they prosecute him for both deaths. Accidental, but his fault.

Death penalty. It's murder.
I'm not going to be popular with this one especially among my fellow atheists so bring on the thumbs-down. I can take it.

They'll already be humiliated, debased, and have put their lives in danger in a back alley. You want to add more?
