I'm writing a letter to President Bush for a class. The problem is I don't know how to address him. Do I call him Mr. President, Mr. Bush, President Bush, or what??

Thanks for the answers! Unfortunately, I decided to write to Mitt Romney instead. Can I address him as just Governor Romney?

Interestingly enough, the proper title for the President of the United States is simply "Mr. President." You can use that or you can address him as "President Bush." Both are correct. Mr. Bush is not correct because that could be any man whose last name is Bush.

Mr. President is the proper salutation in a letter after the address. You can say Dear or just Mr. President...

Great open letter. I, too, would like to ask this question. How come we can extend unemployment benefits to people who are lazy and aren't trying to even look for a job? Maybe we could put them to work fund raising to give breakfasts to our finest and ship them nothing but the best, which is what they deserve.

You put his name and address at the top of the page, then you start the letter with:

Mr. President:

My name is_____________________

Go from there.
