When you were a Christian, did you listen to Christian music and if so, who were your favorites?

Do you still listen to them? and Does it compel you to return to Christianity?

If you didn't like Christian music, what was your favorite Christian commodity (books, movies, etc.)

Personally, I liked Jars of Clay and still listen to them. I liked Josh MacDowell and CS Lewis, and Ben Hur wasmy favorite movie - but (OF COURSE) none of that compels me to return to Christianity because, now that I'm a FREETHINKER, I could never return to those ridiculous myths. But someof the music, etc, is still cool.

PS. Don't you agree though, that most Christian Music is extremely CHEEZY?

i.e. "When I eat my HAAAAM- I'll worship the LAAAMB...."
(you know)

I do think Christian music is extremely CHEEZY! I thought so even then although I did like some it, I'm not above liking cheesy things. I loved the books of C.S. Lewis and I still do. I read "Mere Christianity" when I was a teen first and thought it was valid though then when I went back to it in my twenties I thought wow, he doesn't actually say anything that speaks to the actual truth of it all just that it makes sense sociologically and like but isn't it just nicer type arguments.

We live in a culture influence by religion so it is natural to find it lots of places. I still enjoy stuff and it is also a fact that a lot of those positive messages aren't just the copyright of Christianity. A lot of the good ideas in it were coming out of ancient Greek philosophy and other systems of thought as well. Good ideas, music, etc.. is just that. It doesn't compel me to return to it either. Cheers! =)

I think Christian music is horrible and unmelodic for the most part. There are a few decent musicians out there and they often get snatched up by the mainstream audience. It's hard to rhyme words with "Jesus" and the "Holy spirit".

I used to listen to a famous Christian group when I was a Christian called Petra. They had one good song that actually had a memorable melody but I can't remember what it was.

Now that I'm an atheist it makes me want to vomit. But I find it fascinating how passionate people are about things I know for certain to be false. It's sad and compelling at the same time.

I've always thought that Christian rock was a fairly pathetic attempt to make Christianity hip and cool. I like my religion solemn and sombre, not all this happy clappy rubbish. In the presence of God one should act dignified and respectful, not like a child. I quite like some hymns, and I certainly do enjoy the chanting of Russian Orthodox choirs.

As for Christian books, I am against anything that tries to insiduously worm doctrine into people's ears, but books displaying Christian virtues are fine. After all, Christian virtues are still actual virtues. I used to be a big fan of the Redwall series which had some Christian influences but I've grown out of those now.

Nothing will compel me to return to my old beliefs apart from perhaps the materialisation of Jesus in my bedroom.

Yes, I listened to Christian music for many years.

I still listen to Skillet.

No, nothing compels me to return to fairy land.

Most Christian pop and rock music is horrible.

I listened to some christian music because I felt compelled to. It left a bad taste in my mouth because it was all horrible.

I don't listen to contemporary Christian anymore. I do like the old hymns as many of them have inspirational stories behind them.

But no, without verifiable evidence, I won't return.

Do not listen to Christian music and never have. I will never return to Christianity, ever. It is corrupt and a brainwashing cult in my opinion.

I still love old hymns, gospel music, and religious Christmas songs. And contemporary Christian is still crap.
