I'm 20 and have IBS. Occasionally I get mucus in my stool, or feel as if I need to go to the toilet but only pass mucus. Usually this is when I'm stressed or anxious, but today I have the flu and this is happening. I'm just wondering if viruses can make IBS worse or cause a flare up?

Are you stressed? Yes, you are. IBS is going to be worse any time you are stressed.

Lots of drugstore fiber tabs, if you don't go one day use miralax (NO side-effects). Keep the amount of stuff in your intestines to a minimum, and your IBS will have less ammunition to make you sick.

Absolutely. The flu will pretty much make everything worse. You need to rest and avoid stress. Eat soft easily digested foods to keep your energy up. Eat small frequent meals that won't be heavy on your stomach. No sugary or acidic drinks. Plain cool water is best. Rest, rest, rest!!!
