Actually to be technical, she is most likely a mezzo-soprano, which is higher than a contralto but lower the a soprano.

Amy Grant is an Alto
Charlotte Church is a soprano

I think Kelly Clarkson is Both somehow. A soprano would probably not hit the notes that were low but she can. She can even hit the high notes too.

The lower female voice is an alto, and the higher pitches are soprano. I guess I would consider her an alto.

Soprano. Back in her AI day, she was able to hit those "whistle" tones like Mariah Carey. Not sure about now.

In response to one poster: yes the female "speaking" voice is alto. However, the "Singing" voice is different than your "speaking" voice. My speaking voice is an alto but my singing voice is a high soprano.

you need to to function extra info on your question because of the fact Alto is a choral term that refers to in actuality any voice form that gets caught in that section. it fairly is not a sort of voice.
