What if you woke up and found out that you were still asleep?

j/k

More seriously, as others have pointed out, the question is somewhat flawed because you are assuming that all religions are in essence disprovable. In science, Popper argued for the rule of disprovability -- that nothing should be considered a legitimate hypothesis unless there were some theoretical way to disprove it. For example, the universal law of gravity would be disproved if we found a situation in which it had no relevance. . . .

Religion doesn't follow this law. While some religions may be disprovable by some future technology advance (e.g. time travel would allow us to go back and see if Jesus was real, or Moses ... and future archeological finds might do the same thing) , many religions are essential non-provable, non-disprovable, and a-scientific.

Many religions, if not to some degree ALL religions, deal with that which is outside the physical realm -- they deal with something that is, BY DEFINITION, inaccessible except threw an act of will or of faith. You can't disprove it, because the very act of trying to indicates an absence of faith and without faith you can't access the very thing you purport to study. (It would be like trying to study the behavior of light waves/particles after turning off all the light sources in a room....)

My guess is that even with religions that claim to be historically based, if you could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the historical claims were inaccurate, the majority of the truly faithful would simply say: "all right then, so I suppose that we are meant to take this story, which we assumed to be historical, as actually being a metaphor..." and continue on with their beliefs. Note that the majority of faithfilled pagans do not believe in the historicity of the Olympian/Norse/Celtic/other old mythical happenings, they simply have faith in the non-scientific and supernatural "essence" of these beings as metaphors. The Bible itself says that faith is "the evidence of things unseen." As long as people have faith, external evidence--or lack thereof, or contradiction thereof--is irrelevant.

The point being that true faith doesn't depend on the same groundwork as "knowledge" or "science." It's a whole different animal, and you can't address it the same way.

A more serious question might be -- what if you woke up tomorrow, and found that you no longer had that inner faith in the religion (or scientific methodology) you still consciously believed to be accurate?

As a Christian, I'd have to say all religions are imperfect. A tenet of the traditional Christian faith is that we believers can only get it right through God's intervention... an idea a bit obvious to those who watch us for long. :-)

More seriously, Christians generally reject the scientific metaphysic/worldview, where everything requires a proof and an experiment. It is still pretty new to the world as a whole (about 150 years of popularity in the "western" world) and Christians are still working at ways to resolve the two worldviews. Faith is a tough concept for the scientist to handle. Creation from nothing by an omnipotent deity is a tough concept for science. Evolution is a tough one for a lot of Christians.

So I would say from my point of view, most religions probably can't be "disproved" since that sort of proof isn't part of the way we view the world.

Well, it depends how you define a religion. Buddhism in it's purest form really can't be dis-proven. It's more of a philosophy about how to live, than a creedal, dogmatic faith. Unitarians (which I am) also don't subscribe to any particular dogma.

The world wouldn't shatter if all dogmatic religions were suddenly dis-proven scientifically. No one can "prove" one religion now anyway. And honestly, people who have invested their lives in the pursuit of a faith probably wouldn't change their minds.

They will never completely be disproved because people will ignore the facts or some up with reasons why it hasn't disprove their faith but rather shown proof.

You bring such a good point and this too shall unfold. We may often here of the coming of the Anti-Christ and I would have to tell you this is so.

As nutty as it appears, the Anti Christ will come and be identified by the Christian Church as such. This event will come to be by 2075.

Not that Christianity is "Correct" by any means. I am pointing out that Christianity will be so threatened by this Personlity to come they alone will name Him the Anti Christ as this personality will teach Truth outside of Christian Dogmatic Faith.

This personality will actually be Jesus as a reincarnate, the name, state, country and ethniticity can be any. This Personality, known as Jesus within the Bible, has come many times before.

Christianity teaches a narrowed view of "their truth". It was never the intent of Jesus for his words to be so distorted and turned into a narrowed faith of "saved or go to hell" as this is as far from reality as possible.

Jesus has reiencarnated time and again in many cultures and in such he has been given many names.

Jesus was the man in time and Christ was the truth Universaly; this Union with Jesus and God as Christ was a message of truth badly distorted by religion.

Christ belongs to all men, Jesus was the man who became Christ; there is a huge difference.

By Christians interpreting Jesus as "Son of God", believe this or hell be with you is setting aside the Truth. The truth being that Jesus was just a man, a man, like you, whom made a long trek to God, his trek was in many lives in many states and times; when he came to be "The Christ"; then we see Jesus was the first of "us" to make it. We are all on the same trek.

Back to your question. Yes, religions will be disprooved by 2075 with the "second coming of Christ" being interpreted by the Christian Church as the Anti Christ. Jesus will simply be telling the world the truth in that Christianity, and all others got it wrong; his truth will be Universal and all inclusive and this is what Threatens the Churches of the world, as Churches, are the actual "AntiChrist" as they work as hard as possible to separate truth from reality.

The Truth being that All have a bond with God as they are part of God. The Church does not teach this.

Jesus, call it Jesus 2075, or slightly sooner, is not about overturning the Church, he is about bring Truth of mans Spiritual nature and again, teaching others how to reach to find God. This is primary. These teachings are what Threaten the Church as many Church Caveats are left out in the cold, this is a symptom of truth and not a direct attack on anyone.

The world will not change over night. The transition from the world we live in now to a new world (the 1000 years) will take one Century; after that the acceptence is clear that Jesus whom came again was never the Anti Christ. Many Christians will surly have to "die off" to accept that the Anti-Christ was in fact, Jesus.

One can say "look, we were all warned in the bible about the Anti Christ, how can it be false?

Consider Interpretaions first. The true Anti Christ never left Earth as man consistently denies God and mans own spiritual self.

The Ego teaches man that man is a man and nothing more; the Ego within the Garden of Eden was symbolically represented by the serpent, man failed to take any self responsibility and turned the serpent into a "Devil"...

The Self gratifying Ego is the great liar...

As Christ represents the Union of man and God...

Whom can deny that Mans condition on Earth now, within the self, is not Anti Christ as man has lost contact with God and this is clear.

I think the pope has or is trying this now that unless you have a direct line to your faith that can be traced to the apostle, you cannot not be in a true" church" so brother that means you follow the anti christ or step out in faith reading and showing yourself approved unto God

well, *IF* my aunt was born with testicles, she would be my uncle...but she wasn't. i believe that "religion" will be around until the end of time....all of them. they are passed down from generation to generation; they will never cease to exist. for me on a personal level, Jesus Christ is as real as you and me, and i truly try to live daily for Him and like Him.

I'm not sure, since that means evolution would be disproved too. I guess I wouldn't exist anymore.
