My frienemy got her ears pierced two weeks ago. She said that her earrings were of a much higher quality than mine. Hers are just a ball of gold and mine are aquamarine studs with a gold post. I just don't get it. I got my ears pierced the day before yesterday and the person who pierced my ears said nothing about this "plain gold is of a much higher quality than a gem" nonsense. Is my frienemy telling lies?

She is not necessarily telling lies, she believe what she is saying,

That does not mean it is true

That's just piercer propaganda.
You can have high quality studs, and lousy studs; just as you have high quality gems and inferior gems.
She probably paid more, or just has a 'need' to feel superior.
Ignore her, and be happy with your choice. I assume you both will be buying other earrings soon!
PS:
1] keep cleaning earsite as directed, and turning earring several times a day.
2] keep earrings in AT LEAST six weeks - then you may remove them, clean them with alcohol [ peroxide not good for cleaning metals ] and put them back in.
3] buy good quality [ Monet, Trifari, etc. ] earrings for everyday - don't wear 'accessory store' earrings for at least a year. Some people are very sensitive to the metals added to
gold, silver, etc - usually nickel is the culprit.
4] ask for favorite styles and shapes earrings [ gold/silver/ gems, studs, hoops, etc. ] for Christmas and birthday.
