Well this is kind of second hand, but my buddy hunts raccoons in Florida. He tells me dogs often go missing with collars but gators usually are found . so I would guess yes but for how long I have no clue. gotta ask WHY ??

One thing for sure, if you shoot a collared critter, you don't want to take the collar home with you! Possum cops will come knocking in pretty short order.

it depends on how deep i guess
when they put radio tags on shark they have to put listening stations on the ocean floor or wait for the tag to disengage and float up to the surface and transmitthe info
