Some people with depression don't want people to know they're depressed and try their best to hide it from others. These people are particularly in the most danger of suicide, because they never end up getting professional help or even help from friends.

Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) requires an episode of mania for a week or more and a depressed episode for a week or more in order to be diagnosed. It is extremely rare for bipolar episodes to be within even 24 hours of each other. Rapid cycling is considered about 4+ episodes in a year. Switching back and forth everyday would not be bipolar disorder.

She may be having extreme mood swings for a variety of other reasons. It's impossible to tell without any information.

Bipolar disorder could be described as excessive mood swings, from deep depression to happy and exhilarated "highs" and back again. I don't know if it's genetic or acquired, but it's a psychiatric disorder that can be successfully treated with medication and/or therapy.
