As it's been pointed out previously, at 17 you will need parent consent to join & your GPA will not be a factor.
There is no overall "ASVAB Score."
The score everyone talks about is their AFQT
(Armed Forces Qualifying Test) score.
The AFQT is important.
It is determined from only four areas of the ASVAB: Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), and Mathematics Knowledge (MK)..
The score is computed as follows:
The first step is to determine your Verbal Expression (VE) Score. This is done by adding the value of your ASVAB Word Knowledge (WK) Score to the values of your Paragraph Comprehension (PC) Score. This result is then compared to a chart which gives you your scaled VE Score.
The formula to derive the AFQT "raw Score" is 2VE + AR (Arithmetic Reasoning) + MK (Mathematics Knowledge).
It's important to understand here that the AFQT score is not computed with the AR "Line Score" and the MK "Line Score" that you see on your ASVAB scores sheet. The AR and MK scores shown on the score sheet is "number correct." However, the score used to compute AFQT score is the "weighted score," which takes into consideration the difficulty level of the question.
This formula results in the AFQT "raw score," which is then converted into a percentile score.
The person's AFQT score is a percentile score, based on the population of test-takers in the above study. The percentiles are based upon a 99 point scale with 99 being the highest.
For enlistment purposes, AFQT Scores are divided into the following categories:
Category I - 93-100
Category II - 65-92
Category IIIA - 50-64
Category IIIB - 31-49
Category IVA - 21-30
Category IVB - 16-20
Category IVC - 10-15
Category V - 0-9
There is ALLOT more in-depth information about this in the web link I provided. I'm sure it will answer all of your questions and then some! Good luck to you :)

So, as everyone has said, there is no minimum GPA requirement. I would wait to graduate HS before applying to get in, unless you plan on being in the Guard. The Guard has a split option program where you go to basic training summer between Jr and Sr year of HS, and then do your Advanced Individual Training after you graduate HS. I am not sure if the Reserves has the same program. Anyway, if you are interested in joining, the recruiter for the branch in which you are considering will take you to the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) to take the ASVAB. This does not commit you to that recruiter, but your score will let you know what jobs you are eligible for in the branch you have chosen. I hope this helps!

There is no minimum GPA, nor must you be a high school graduate. You will have to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). There is a minimum score on this, but I can't remember what it is. I believe it's 35, but don't quote me on that. You can be a highschool dropout with a GED and still get into the military. Talk to your local recruiter to see what you'll need to do in order to join.

GPA does not matter as long as you graduate or have a GED. The ASVAB is the military placement test. Your recruiter will be able to get you scheduled for one and they can even do it in some high schools.

High school graduate and a ASVAB score that puts you in mental category 1 to 3A will do the trick. At 17, you'll also need your parents permission.

You just need a high school diploma or GED equivalent, but I'd recommend you wait until you're 18 to join the military. People under 18 catch a lot of flak from older guys.

almost all the answers here that ive read are misleading wrong. you do not have to be a high school graduate, you can be a junior in high school or a senior and enlist provided you are 17 yrs old and have parental permission. but you must graduate before you ship out to your AIT or first duty station.
