Pain Meds:
I had been up to 5 to 6 tabs of 10/325 Norco a day now I am on 3 1/2 sometimes 4 Norco a day.
Does anyone have any real good advice about a tapering schedule and the worst symptoms... and how long to taper etc?

Hey,

You are a step behind where I was at just a few months ago. My habit was anywhere from 12-18 a day as well. Same meds 10-325. My first wakeup call was when my doc stopped my meds and I went into a 4 day hell withdrawl. The shakes, insomnia, diahrea, fever, no appetite, headaches, etc. Day 1 was bad, 2 was the worst, 3 was still bad and 4 I just started to feel like I could function. I stopped cold turkey and as a result paid the price. My doc put me back on and gave me 60 in hopes of tapering back down. I did and I got down to 1 2 times a day but slowly was able to get them again off the street so my habit went back up. My second and final wakeup call was when I dropped 500 bucks to get some in fear of withdrawl. Finally I started the tapering process and am currently on 2 2 times a day and scheduled to start suboxone on monday. As far as what works when tapering? If you take them twice a day decrease it by a quarter of a pill a day all the way down to a quarter of a pill. You will still hit withdrawl but nothing like cold turkey withdrawl. I'm telling you all of this because it took some lessons like being so hard up that I would drop a half a grand for some and the pain I suffered the first time. No need for you to go thru that. When you want to take more and you start losing the buzz just deal with it because the one time you start increasing your dosage again it just gets worse. If you have a hard time getting off because you have been on it so long look up suboxone and see what docs in the area prescribe it. Stay well and good luck.

IF YOU ARE GOING OVER WHATS THE DOSE IS ,YOU NEED TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR,I TOOK PAIN MEDS FOR 12YRS MY SUGGESTING IS TO GO THRU A 3-5 DAY DETOX AND GET MEDS THAT DO NOT HAVE OPIEDS IN THEM.

These are questions your doctor would be more qualified to answer. He or she is the best person to consult about your medications and dosages.
