My girlfriend was cited with a ticket this morning on her way to work. I was wondering what is going to happen to her? The offense was "driving while license suspended or revoked 3rd degree" .. she honestly didnt know that she had some past tickets to pay and that her license was invalid. the listing is RCW 46.20.342.1c - if that helps. Is she going to jail?? :( she has a mandatory court date....

She didn't know... the judge will not buy that.
-get ticket and sign for it
-go to court or prepay
-don't show in court or pay judged guilty and license is suspended
-go and pay later and they tell you what you owe with court costs...... all done and failure to appears are dropped

That's it. No way to "not know". Maybe they messed up but no charges are valid if she was never told or signed anything. That was my being nice insertion.

She needs to go to DMV and get a printout. If they are her tickets she should just pay them. She has not yet been judged guilty of driving on suspended no that is not held against her at this point. If she pays and reinstates then she can show up in court showing she took care of it..... the judge will be much kinder. If the previous tickets were for speeding or something she should do the traffic school thing BEFORE court.

If you can afford it get a lawyer. A suspended conviction means points and later will cost much, much more. If she never had these tickets she needs a lawyer.

But all in all dude..... a first suspended is just going to cost a bit and jail is unlikely..... but this depends on her tickets. Get the DMV printout and get the truth. The odds of the state messing up that bad are slim.

wow, i guess your girlfriend got off lucky. here in NJ she'd have been arrested on the spot and her car impounded.

Being that she was not in fact arrested on the scene, she'll have to go to court to face the charge on the ticket. worst case scenario she'll end up having her license suspended and have insurance surcharges. Definately get a lawyer, best case scenario is the lawyer will be able to reduce the charges.

hopefully she has fairly clean driving record aside from those tickets, depending on what the tickets from the past were for.

Good luck

Depending on what the tickets were for, she will probably be required to pay all the fines plus the court costs. She may be suspended for a period of time. The jails are so overcrowded that it is doubtful she will be sentenced to time.

I have no idea, but paying the tickets before the court date and bringing the receipts to court might (or might not) help.
