I got a new laptop and I wanted to upload videos from my JVC GR-D650U onto it. I connected it through USB cable and the Laptop didn't pick it up. I got a firewire for it and it still won't pick up. When I used to connect the DVcam to my old Windows XP PC through USB it would work fine. I know the USB port is fine because it picks up all my other appliances. As for my IEE 1394 port, I tried uninstalling the driver, restarting the computer and reinstalling the driver but no results. I tried plugging my camcorder in my roommate's laptop she has XP and it still didn't pick up the camcorder.

Any Suggestions?
Or should I go buy a new Firewire cord. (though I just bought this one)

Try connecting your camera and (even if nothing happens) try capturing in an editing program (unless that's what you're already doing). Although it's unlikely, sometimes it will be able to capture even if it doesn't show up. You could also try making sure the cable is securely attached by holding it with your fingers and see if it makes a difference. Other than that, you could try getting another firewire cable. I don't know if you've tried this already, but you said the USB port on your vista laptop isn't detecting the camera, so you could try using the CD that came with your camera and see if there are any drivers. Hopefully this helped a bit!
