Compared to the air quality standards in Russia, it probably isn't considered a threat. Of course Chernobyl was considered little more than a blip on the environmental radar to the Russian government.

What a relief! It's reasonable to assume these guys are telling the truth and the rest lying, isn't it? I mean, they've always told the truth in the past, right? They told the truth about Chernobyl, right? They were always honest during the nuclear arms race and the space program, now ya can't deny that! And they're our most reliable ally, right? Heck if we can't trust Vladimir Putin to see that things are done correctly, who can we trust? He's never involved in anything with an ulterior miotive, and a big fan of the Bush Administration, right? Now that Bush has decided that once again Global Warming is right, nobody would take the opposite side just for spite, would they? I mean, Americans are universally liked and respected abroad, right?

That's NOT what the man said. The article is misrepresenting what was said. Dr. Yury Izrael did point out a few monts ago that there were other factors in addition to human activity contributing to climate change. Which is correct--about 15% is do to natural causes.
NOTE--while you are reading--the author of this propaganda piece was not quoting Dr. Izrael--he was making statements in a fashionn that made it appear if he was. A blatently unethical misrepresentation.
This website is one of those funded by the oil companies (Exxon/MObile, I think). There is NO "debate" about the causes of global warming. Just some propaganda and some people gullible enough to be taken in by it.

To answer for Courney B; You can find a list of the denial and sceptic scinetists on Wiki. Does it matter if someone can't name a arbitory number of the other 98.5% (approx) of climate scientists.
The Russian economy is so dependant on its energy reserves that if the top russian scientist had said it was a global threat then it might have made a decent news network.
Think the unthinkable.

to top russian climate scientist, of course climate change is not a threat, im sure when we,re boiling in unbearable heat in summer and -30 degree freezing winters in a few years time your words wont come back to haunt us, and not to mention when the ice caps melt and a massive tidal wave arrives to sweep up cities im almost sure it wouldnt have been caused by that silly idea that global warming does actually exist, i suggest mr russian scientist that you hand back that degree or masters that you received in university and consider getting a real education one in the school of life perhaps.

Very interesting. Seems as we know more about it, the more skeptics show up. The real truth will probably end up some where in between the extremes.
It will take a long time to get enough empirical data we can prove or disprove all the theories put forth to date.
A question I keep asking is why is the temperature in the US not rising like the rest of the world? Seems like if it is global, then everywhere would warm up.
