Tthe American Medical Association definition of death, is no brain activity. Many people who have NDEs are connected to EEG machines that are flatlined. There is no brain activity and no heart beat. This constitutes clinical death.

There is also an argument that says the brain continues to function after there is no activity. Mainly from the resuscitation efforts that are being conducted. This argument is questionable and not verifiable.

The length of time a patient is brain dead varies from a few minutes to several hours in the NDE accounts One patient had been dead for 40 minutes before revival. Brain activity can not account for the new information the patient has when revived.
The longest time someone has been dead (that I know of) goes to Grigorievich Rodonaia, a Russian, who was killed by the KGB. He was in the morgue for for 3 days in cold storage. During the autopsy, he regained consciousness. He has recovered without permanent injury and is now living somewhere in Tex

Obviously, the man was misdiagnosed.

I also notice you don't actually mention any "experiences" or memories of this person who was supposedly dead for three days...

Pastor Daniel Ekechukwu in Nigeria was also raised from the dead after 3 days. Pastor Daniel died after a road traffic accident. His body was in a mortuary for 3 days, and he came back to life at a crusade conducted by Pastor Reinhardt Bonnke. He still has his death certificate, written by a hospital doctor. In the movie, "the Lazarus Phenomenon" he recounts his experiences.... Here is the link: http://www.finalfrontier.org.uk/index.php?main=13&sub=3&page=1

Apparently, he wasn't dead. There have been several cases where people were pronounced dead (even by doctors), yet weren't.

I heard about a case where a man was declared dead, but he was conscious, but unable to move or respond. As the morticians were moving him to be embalmed (which he knew would kill him), he finally managed to blink an eye at one of them. The morticians promptly called for an ambulance, and he was later brought around in a hospital.

What you're talking about may be uncommon, but it does happen.

Besides, I work in emergency medical services. People who are cold can often survive for long periods of time in this manner. There's a saying among EMT's & paramedics: they ain't dead until they're WARM and dead.

Easy - they werent brain dead.

People that have NDEs are not brain dead - their hearts have stopped beating, but there is still activity in the brain. No brain dead person has ever reported an NDE, because no person who is both brain dead and heart is not beating has "survived" that... The Russian guy - not brain dead and was in cold storage....people have been under ice for hours and survived with little brain damage, due to cold.

1st. It is plagiarism to cut and paste without referencing your source.

2nd. As (allegedly) someone in the medical field you should know that that is not a full definition of death.

3rd Why can I not find any news story on this guy? I can only find apocryphal items making the same wild claim that you do. Please post a reputable news source that supports the claim about this Georgian. (Not Russian)

Life is funny that way. You can freeze goldfish in your pond all winter and they will thaw out and swim around like they weren't fishcicles for 3 months. If we could figure out exactly how to accomplish this we could put people under longer that are dying and operate and/or wait till there is a cure for their ailment. I'm sure research is and has been done on this.

The Bible says that life is in the blood. You can be brain dead and still have life. Take away your blood and you die. The Medical Association can define death any way they want. That doesn't make it right

sounds like a zombie to me.

did you know that, as you die, your brain cells (which aren't actually physically connected, but held together by electrical charge) release their final charge through your optic nerve? this has been documented. a person, in many cases, actually "experiences" their own brain dying. the body also releases endorphins in cases where a person is dying from a chronic disease or other non-traumatic instance in order to induce a euphoric state to combat the stress/panic of dying.

Don't believe this is true but if so, should we start worshipping Grigorievich Rodonaia?
