Why is my cat becoming worse than a child? I have 2 cats, and the younger one is very independant, is friendly but not real trusting of strangers. The older cat though...omg, this cat is driving me crazy. He is constantly at my feet. I give him attention, i play with him, pet him, etc...he has food and water....but i am just constantly tripping over him. Its getting very annoying, especially since i have a baby (8 month old, so its not a "new" thing), and have almost fallen twice while holding the baby because the cat ran directly at my feet. Why is he acting like this, and how do i make him stop??

The cat is Jealous! We have 3 cats And a three year old and ALL of them compete for attention.

It can be a Real PITA! LOL

He wants attention, mostly because you're not focusing on the cats but the baby.

Sometimes just quietly talking to the cat (as you hold the baby) will be enough, say his name multiple times and he'll figure he's finally got your attention and he can back off. Really, most cats do behave like two year olds, they have to have immediate feedback to feel good.

A little more physical contact would be good for him too. Nothing extensive, just a hand on his shoulder or side a couple of times a day, or a quick swipe of a petting down his back, and say his name at the same time. That's all they're looking for.

Definately a jealous kitty. The younger one probably doesn't really know any different. Make sure he's got plenty to keep him occupied during the day. Try giving him some raw or canned food in the afternoon. Maybe when you put the baby to bed, pay a lot more attention to the older cat. Make him feel like 'top cat' for a couple of hours.

The older cat is use to being the one who gets all the attention so now he is just trying to get even more attention. Cats are very competitive when it comes to attention when they are use to being the only one who gets all the attention.

CATS ARE SMART........HE WANTS YOU TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO HIM THAN THE CHILD...........
CATS WANT ATTENTION TOO.YES, I KNOW YOU SHOW THE CAT SOME AFFECTION, BUT THAT'S HOW THERE ARE..........I HAD ONE.....
BUT, BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THE CAT WILL TRY TO HARM THE BABY.......THAT HAPPEN TO ME WITH MY CAT...IF I WASN'T THERE IN TIME MY CAT WILL HAVE SCRATCHED MY BABY......SO BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR CAT AND CHILD TOGETHER

GOOD LUCK

You've got to hit the cat, kick the cat away. The cat will soon learn to stay out of your way.
