Are we not in AMERICA? I fought for this country and for me to see that makes me want to lose my mind! I can't belive the united states goverment is allowing this to happen. In other countries the person or persons resposable would be put to death.

In Mexico it would be appropriate although Mexicans would probably demand ours removed. Here it is a request for someone partiotic to go inside and beat the daylights out of its owner.

Yes it is legal. It is legal to fly the Irish flag and many carry one on St. Paddy's day. The Italian flag fly with many on Columbus Day. (Ever notice how much alike those two flags are? See below) Why should the those of other decents not be able to celebrate say Cinco Di Mayo. What the real issue that comes up is there is a lot of resentment against illegals in this country and flying the Mexican Flag seems to many to show that there is no real desire to become American. Also, carrying a Mexican Flag at a "grant us citizenship" rally is just poor taste, and worse, bad politics. BUT, this is a country that allows free expression. Like the speech or hate the speech, we still have to allow it. About 30 years ago, a Nazi group wanted to march in Skokie ILL., a town that had many Jewish consentration camp survivors. As a Jew I thought it was a deplorable idea, but I still thought they should have the right to march. (Hey if a few of the marches got hit by falling rocks, dang, how sad). They eventually got the permit to march and they were afraid to do it. They got an assembly permit for a park not in Skokie and about 15 Nazi's showed up. Doing the right thing got the right result. It showed they were chickens. Now, returning to your problem in this question. If you are friends with the person, you might try talking to them. If not, leave it alone. You can fly an American Flag yourself. That will be all the statement you have to make.

Don't take my answer in the wrong way here. Because I am American and love my country. I know my American flag will always fly above anothers. But do you want the whole story or half the story.

The MeChA school(s) do it as a disrespect to this country. The Mexican flag above the American flag turned upside down on the same poles. Against Federal policies for flying National flags.

Now as for the business owner in Reno. It was done to protest the continued raids, and crack downs. The man admitted his mistake. He said he didn't know the rules to flying the flags properly. At least give him benefit of the doubt. Even I have made mistakes, and try to rectify them. Still it was very disrespectful to the country from which one is in. Now had the business owner flown the flags on separate poles at the same height, things would have been fine.

At least in that particular part of the country, Our American Flag is no longer being disgraced as it is in other parts of this great country. That vet has my vote if he ever runs for President. I'm still giving him a standing ovation. "clap, clap, clap"

All the more reason to send these traitors and law breakers back where they came from! They have cost us enough and then they bite the hand that feeds them! The only free thing these illegals should ever get via the USA is a military escort back home! Let them fly their own flags back home and fight for "rights" in their own country! Put pressure on your elected officials to get all illegals out of this country! They are breaking our laws and stealing from our system. Time to make them go home! God bless America!

Under national and international law, that idiot bar owner violated the law. It was an insult to the US flag and therefore, the US.
Under the law, a nation's flag flies over any other flag within that nation. The only circumstance where a foreign flag can be flown above is if the foreign flag is of a nation that just conquered that nation.
That bar owner action was contemptuous and falsely claiming Mexican superiority. In the video of the veteran cutting down and rescuing our flag, the bar owner silently watched, scooped up his dang flag and ran inside. No protest when a real AMERICAN showed up and calmly took control and retrieved our flag.
Americans will fight for our flag.

Proper flag ettiqute when more than one are flown at once.
1. Country, State, County, City, special. (top to bottom)

Edit: after reading the statutes, the American flag LEGALLY has prominence over all other flags on US soil.

While I do not agree with the man who violently cut it down, I should have been taken down promptly and the owner of the bar should have been punished according to the federal statute.

edit: nomames, the United States of America doesn't extend that far. it goes from Canada's South Border to Mexico's North Border, and includes Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the other US territories.

It's an act of protest, I read what I think is the same news story, and some army veteran went up, and cut the mexican
flag down, now he's facing police charges or something.

File it under 'stupid people tricks', and go get a Slurpee...

I cannot believe this happens. There should be a law against it. It makes me sick everytime I see it. My family has a long history of veterans who fought for us. Some even died. What can we do to stop this. God bless you for fighting for us.

Edit. Thank you CF and Lady America, I thought there was a law. What we really need is enforced laws. I live near Chicago and I guess I see the Mexican flag being waved in front of our faces so much that I thought they abolished that law too. Why wasn't this on National News!!

To me it is an insult. I know many want to think it's no big deal but it's things just like that, that are one of many little "in your face" tactics of disrespect. The time they flew the Mexican flag over an up-side-down American flag. They know what it means. They know exactly what they are doing. They know this act insults the American citizen to the core of who we are. It's no mistake. It's not being ignorant of not knowing. It's sheer defiance, disrespect and "in your face" taunting.

What this guy did is against the law. In a perfect world I suppose the vetran should have gone in and asked him to remedy the situation before he took it down himself but he didn't. I don't think there's an immigrant here that is that stupid to think it's proper to fly another nations flag over ours. We have sat back and tolerated too much for too long and what "seems" like such an innocent act not worthy of a mention are things in which people are not going tolerate much longer. Can't go playing stupid now and claiming you don't get these acts are offensive. Poke your finger in my face for too long and I'm gonna reach my level of tolerance and understanding and bite the darn thing off.

I bet there would be a tirade if I went through an hispanic community and smashed all their Lady of Guadaloupe statues. Hey....just a statue. Ain't important to me. Nothin but plaster and paint.

Time for them to re-think if it's worth it to trash our countries symbols. Sure don't mind taking the benefits from it.

I did have to give a kudos to the vetran though. I know and so do many others know the agenda of certain extreemists groups. Wanna declare war....then have enough kahoonas to do it and quit hiding behind "racism" and every other excuse and supposid right........message sent and received. No confusion here.

I do not know, but my loyalties stand with the United States of American not Mexico. Even though I have or had family members that were born in Mexico, I will never betray a country that is as magnificent as the U.S.A.
