Personal freedom is deeply ingrained in the UK population, when you cross the line and make people feel that this is under threat, then the fighting force is around 60 million.
Although admittedly, a lot of people have been eating too many pies to run like an infantry man!

100% because the military could not function without all of it's sections supporting one another. the military per se is not just about armed combat. if you mean armed combat only then again....difficult to say because people fight for different reasons. there is no singular mind set that makes one a good soldier and just wanting to kick some one's **** does not make a good soldier. like any skill it haqs to be backed up with the intelligence to implement it and in any platoon you have people of varying talents in different areas of combat. the typical macho stereotype of a gungho kick *** rambo is total tosh and any commanding officer will tell you that. raw recruits do not have "what it takes" as you say to be an effective fighting machine. that comes from training both physical and psychological and that said anyone can train but how many can understand and be useful in the long run is anyones guess. so in essence...in order to know what percentage of the population has what it takes...you first have to know what "it" is and as you don't clarify what "it" is.....can't actually give you a proper answer.

A very high percentage of UK citizens are quite willing and able to fight and often do so.
Recruitment for the British Army would not be nearly so difficult if soft liberal members of parliament just kept their noses out of the business of recruitment.
South Wales has always been a very good recruiting ground for the British Army, but now we hear politicians telling the army not to recruit so many in South Wales an area of quite high unemployment and one with a long tradition of military service.
The Welsh by the way have a hobby, it's called 'war'. It comes naturally and if they're not too busy bashing the hell out of each other, they will quite happily go off and bash the hell out of anyone else who wants a fight.
Just point to the enemy, that's all you ever need to do.
WALES FOREVER!

i became a volunteer soldier from 1972-1974 .. maximum of my family participants theory i became loopy .perhaps i became at 20 . in the two yrs. in the service ,I observed 2 Armies . the previous college ,gun hollow area ,and the drafted peace & love area .purely about all my companions have been anti-conflict ,anti-military ,and became a balancing stress in protesting the conflict from the interior . In 1973 the draft became terminated . The all-Volunteer service became began . via fact that then ..the anti conflict ,anti military soldier ceased to be interior the eco-friendly gadget . it fairly is extra handy now ...to commence never ending wars ,via fact in straightforward terms a million % of the inhabitants of 303,000,000 ..is an element of the militia ..and the protest marches have all yet disappeared . the different ninety 9 % are no longer engaged ??
