It depends on your computer and use habits. There is some research that shows that it is less expensive to leave your computer on 24/7 because powering it up uses more electricity than if you had just left it running. The same works for lights.
Regularly turning off and on is more expensive than leaving it running. But, if you only use it an hour a day - of course it'd be cheaper to turn it off.

Depending on the pc about 90p. More if you also leave the printer on standby, and the scanner too? What ever it costs the money is not as important as the fact that it is a scarce resource that is being wasted and contributes to global warming. Good habit to turn everything off when not in use..... even if you are loaded and can afford to waste the money!!

Okay Suzie, I am a bright person for American money but I have never traveled anywhere that I would learn some other country's denominations except for Canada. I only know that in Canada my U.S. money is worth more and I just ask them to please figure out the amount that I owe.
I know with who we have for Our 3 computers that it is actually cheaper to keep the computers on and that it costs more to shut them off and then turn them on.
So, since I have no clue I will yield to the smarter ones who can answer this question and I am claiming stupidity day for myself.

OK, first a few assumptions.
Lets say your PC & monitor uses 250W in total.
Lets say you pay £0.10 per kWh.
250W for 24 hours = 6kWh so... £0.60.
60p.
That's £18 per month. That's £54 per quarter.
