i dont understand why so many answers on here insist that because someone is of faith they are brainwashed. coming from my own situation i found faith to be a way to lead my life, and i found it on my own. so where did the brainwashing take place? when i decided the Lord is my savior or when i decided that science and logic dont have all the answers? say what you want but i along with many believers are very clear minded and humbled by the idea of living a life around and for the faith of God. so why ( to all those who think its a "brainwashing") are you not humbled in letting me make my own life decisions and you just getting on with yours.

mind you this is not an attack on non-believers, and even though im going to get the anti-faith answers, i want to make it clear that i am in fact really curious about this.

It's because you have something they wish they could. They are jealous. They are defending a myth that provides them no answers and gives them no peace. They can't comprehend the thought that there is a God, and if you can, then YOU must have a problem. The Bible states that they will mock you and say that you are a fool, and they will follow fantasy that tickles their ears (paraphrased). That is exactly what is going on. I know it gets old, and it bugs me sometimes, I even asked a question a few days ago if you want to check the answers. But, we can't let people that have nothing insult us because we do.

Congratulations on seeing the truth. Its good to know there is some hope for atheists

Because unbelievers are blinded by their own fundamentalist commitment to the philosophy of naturalism as the only valid explanation for anything period. Unbelievers claim to be "free thinkers" or people who think "outside the box." So, since Christians get most/all foundational beliefs from a singular book (the Bible) then we are the ones who simple are simply being "brainwashed" by our spiritual leaders. Our commitment to the Bible as an authority is seen as being blind since supposedly all known facts contradict the Bible (which isn't true by the way).
The problem with the unbelieving position that naturalism is the only valid explanation for all things supernatural is that there is no empirical way to test such a claim. It's like saying I like vanilla over chocolate ice cream. If a believer can't answer the problem of evil in a way that the atheist will accept then there is no "good" answer and our position must be false and theirs true somehow by default as if suffering weren't also a problem for atheism. So, in conclusion the skeptic claims that everything they believe is scientifically verifiable whereas the Christian is proped up by not basing anything we believe on science or supported by the sciences. The statement "nothing is true unless verified by science" is itself not a scientific statement. And you see that the unbeliever really has there own kind of faith its just that they are more comfortable proping up a straw man to easily knock down in order to bolster their own position.

Well, the idea that if something doesn't make sense to you in a religion, you should just "have faith", can be a very dangerous brainwashing tool. Terrorists use this idea of faith in that if they blow up a street full of civilians, they will go to heaven and have 12 virgins. The idea of not questioning something that doesn't make sense to you, is a dangerous one. Try to answer this question without having faith. If God is all powerful and all knowing, how can people have free will? If God knows every decision we'll make now and in the future, then do we really think for ourselves? And if we do have free will, how can God be all knowing and all powerful, since God wouldn't be able to know the future. I've been told to just have faith when it came to this question.

Basically when you decided that science and logic can take a second seat to belief. Granted, you said they don't have all the answers which is true, and it's also true that they don't try to.

If you accept that science deals with facts and you have no problem with it contradicting belief, then you aren't brainwashed. If on the other hand you take belief over verified facts, well that's the first step to not thinking.

Brainwashing is a term normally used to refer to cults who use specific psychological techniques to get people to believe and conform in a certain way. I don't agree that people of faith are brainwashed. Nor do I believe that raising children in a religion is brainwashing them. How is it any different from teaching them not to run across a busy street, talk to strangers, or touch hot things.

Non-believers in religion have other beliefs. Political, cultural, etc. Are you brainwashed because you are a Republican or Democrat, because you eat with a fork and knife rather than with your hands or chopsticks, whether you believe in the fundamental equality of all people, etc.

Why is it so difficult for people simply to accept human diversity and respect the opinions of others. Arguing and butting heads all the time seems like a complete waste of time to me.

Brainwashing comes generally from parents who enforce their religion onto their children. Although this is essential in order for the child to develop a sense that he belongs in that family, it may lead the child to come to feel as though he/she was brainwashed. It's all about opinion. Children who didn't have religion in their household suffered from the feeling of isolation, whereas children who were raised in a household tend to wish they hadn't. No one is really satisfied with his/her own beliefs.
I personally believe that some sort of belief system is necessary even outside the home. What belief you wish to use is entirely up to your own choice.

Because for the most part, religion is socialized.

I've met Christians who were STUNNED that I didn't follow some form of Christianity. That seems a little ignorant to me.

And also because, if you have been raised as a believer, and then find that "have faith" doesn't cut it for you, well, it does seem that the people around you are determinedly blind. (Which is ironically what believers say about us. Perspective bias, I know.)

Brainwashing prefer not advise swinging pocketwatches or drug scientific care: it is in basic terms the attempt made to tension people faraway from their previously held ideas and into new, unquestionable ones. A Christian upbringing frequently, yet not continually, incorporates indoctrination into previous ideas with regard to the creation of guy, his place interior the worldwide and so on, devoid of threat to question those ideals, and consequently he's brainwashed. gazing the type of clappy-happy mega-churches that exist, mutually with Hillsong, and the propaganda sent out continuously to Christians from televised pastors, possible actual see that such all of us is quite being brainwashed into throwing away a reliance upon empiricism and info to circulate into an easier gadget of blind concept. it is diffused, somewhat to those who're already being indoctrinated into the religion of the Christian Church, yet unquestionably exists. each and all of the "born-agains," whose concept in technology and guy's very own potential to shape his existence replaced into completely destroyed while, as they say, God got here into their existence and "saved them." in spite of each and all of the info to the different, many combat valiently for the reason of creationism not because of the fact the concrete info tells them it somewhat is a probably thought, yet because of the fact faith, and their elders and their friends and their meant God tells them so. somewhat, it is all somewhat creepy. pay attention to your self: faith is a community that ensures people "do not stray" - everyone who questions the classic ideas held via the Christian Church is a heretic. this is, certainly, brainwashing.

Brainwashing tends to be used as a pejorative comment people tend to throw at other people out of frustration or anger due to a pattern of thought they see and dislike.

Incidentally - the very concept of Brainwashing itself is up for scientific debate.

people whose mind are closed are likely to get brainwashed.

I would like to mention that, if what you are believing is true and from God then you should believe that
science and logic do become facts from theory, to the word of God. and make your believe stronger then before.

one more thing that I would like to point to your comment "Lord is my savior" are you talking about Jesus Christ peace be upon him, then I have to disagree with you because God cannot have son or daughter or wife. these are not the qualities of God.

There is only one God who is the creator of all things.
