are you not trying to find the info yourself or are you trying to get another perspective or are you trying to prove that this younger generation is lazy and wants things given to them?

some one said that "even I" put my question on the site, but my question is that of a personal nature not a high school or middle school student putting their school work on in hopes that others will do it, not hey who likes to use suave shampoo?

I think the problem lies in a couple things. I do think some are lazy and some just don't know, but I also think that kids aren't learning to research anymore.

When I was in school, and it wasn't THAT long ago, we spent a lot of time each year learning to research, from 1st grade on. The only computers we used were in higher grades, when computer-based card catalogs started coming into the schools.

I think now kids think that "research" = "google"

And in addition, they figure if they can get the answer easier - by asking here - they don't even have to sort through the search results.

Teachers are so pressed by standardized testing, I think they don't have time to teach real library research so they let it happen - hey if they can get the most current information online, what do kids need encyclopedias for, right???

How sad that most kids will think of a user-edited wikipedia when people talk about encyclopedias. I still long for my own full set of beautiful, hard-covered encyclopedias.

Even math problems end up here, and I don't understand that at all! Are the math books THAT bad, that you can't go back to the beginning of the section and read about how to do the problem? Are there no more examples worked out to demonstrate the process? I'm dismayed, too.

Edit: I'm adding one more thing. Where are parents? I know a lot of parents who sit down with their kids to check their homework, and their kids know to come to them when a problem has them stumped. So what is going on with the parents of the kids who are asking for simple algebra help on Yahoo Answers? Are they just not willing to help their kids, or not able to do the work themselves?

probably some of them don't understand how to do it themselves and don't put that in the question. others are lazy or apathetic or both.
