Depending on your religion has alot to do on if it's a sin. In the Jewish religion, if you have a tattoo, you can not ben buried in the jewish cemetary. I listed a website that may be helpful in better understanding what the bible may say about it. I personally have 15 tattoos and plan on getting more. I see tattoos as an art form and my body the canvas. Keep in mind that regardless of how you look or what you put on your body, God will take you as you are.

Just because you don't believe something is not wrong does not make it right. If I didn't believe rape was wrong, would it still be a sin? Of Course! The Bible says to treat your body like a temple. If you believe you are honoring God, who gave you your body to use to serve him, by getting a tattoo, then go ahead. The Bible is not specific on tattoos and what not to do to your body so you just have to ask yourself that question.

No-just be careful WHAT you get,
Getting a tattoo is a lot like getting married-once you have it, you have it for life!
If you have even the SMALLEST doubt about getting it-DON'T!
I have over $1,500 of tattoos & if anyone says thing about mine, I always refer them to:
1 Samuel 16:7 (New International Version)

7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

In religion (depending on which one you follow), it's not up to you to decide what is a sin and what is not.
As for whether it is a sin, I guess that depends what religion you're talking about. Some religions are very strict on such issues and others actually promote tattooing (for exmaple: religous symbols).
I'm not religious, so from my perspective it is simply a personal choice.

No its not, it is however just a waste of time, and you will regret it, how many 80 year olds look a that shriveld up faded rose and say whoa! that was a good idea, tattoos are not evil, they are just silly, sure you can show it off for a while but when you get a respectable job you will then be covering it up, and when you get older you will regret it.

I think it is funny when people say tatooing is forbidden and then bring up the Leviticus passage because the verse right before it says not to trim your beard. LOL
Leviticus 19:27
I have known many that have gotten a tattoo to comemorate them coming to Christ or to be a witness to others. I really don't think it matters to God. God cares about your heart

In the old testament, the forbidding of this type of thing is clear. But let me ask you a question. Are we under the law or under grace? If you think your right standing before god is dependent on you obeying an old testament law, then your obligation is to make sure you obey all 615 of them. (James 2:10 - "For whosever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.") The new testament is clear when it says we are not under the law, but under grace. Christ nailed the law to the tree and sin with it.

I don't think it is wrong unless you have a a tattoo that wouldn't please God. As long as it isn't indecent, blasphemous, etc... go for it. I am a devout Christian- and this is my opinion.
By the way I went to school with 2 of the worlds leading tattoo artists- Hannah and Guy Aitcheson. Here's their web sites.

Since 'sin' is a human-created concept to begin with, then of course it's fine for you to do whatever you want to and believe in as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. If you get a tattoo however, I recommend you make it small and you get something that you REALLY believe you're going to want to see on your skin for the rest of your life.

I see tatoos as insulting to the millions of Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals etc. who were forced to get a number tatooed onto their arms when they were put into concentration camps. However, I do not see tatoos as sins, just a little distasteful... Remember that for the most part they are permanent, and you don't want to get a tatoo that you'll be embarrassed of 20 years down the line
